Well, the countries in the world have some seriously odd and weird laws that if you break them would lead to paying fee or even ending up in jail. You probably never thought that holding hands with your significant other can cause trouble and hurt the law in Dubai. #1. Sodomy is illegal in 7 US countries

If ever wondered, yes the sodomy is forbidden by the law in Idaho, Utah, Michigan, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Yes, these laws are real even though they sound ridiculous. But wait, there is more. In Montana, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas sodomy is legal only for homosexuals. Oral sex is often considered sodomy by many states, according to the Hebrew Bible.

#2. Alabama allows interracial marriages since 2000

Probably it was the whole new millennium thing that made Alabamans laws change and actually “let” interracial couples get married. The fact that it was forbidden speaks of the racist laws that some American states are still having.

#3. Saudi Arabian women are not allowed to drive

It is illegal for any woman to drive a car, so if you ever visit the country it is highly unlikely to see a female driver. Right now, it’s illegal for them to vote too. Apparently it will become legal in 2015. Well, considering the fact how patriarchal society they live in, that would be a huge change.

#4. Greece is pretty brutal to people who has HIV

The Greek police are allowed to arrest anyone suspected of having HIV. Police are also allowed to force a person to do HIV test, to publicize the names of HIV-positive people and to have them evicted from their homes.

#5. Hong Kong lets wives kill cheating husbands

The law allows a wife to kill her husband if she finds him cheating. However, she must kill him with her bare hands. Any other way would be considered a crime. On the other hand, the husband can kill his wife in any way he pleases.

#6. Swedish prostitution is legal, but buying a prostitute is not

In Sweden it is illegal to be found buying the services of a prostitute, even though prostitution is legal. That means the prostitutes themselves would not be breaking the law, only the person who “buys” their services. In the past few years Iceland and Norway have also adopted this law.

#7. Australia won’t let you change the light bulb unless you are an electrician

In Victoria, Australia, it is illegal to change a light bulb unless you’re a licensed electrician. So, you are supposed to stay in the dark while you wait for the electrician to show up at your door.

#8. Norway has pretty feministic laws for female pets

There is a law that protects all female dogs and cats from being spayed. Only male dogs and cats can be neutered. An ancient Norwegian law which still still exists obliges all Norwegians to go out on expeditions to rape and plunder at least once every five years (this sounds too brutal for a country that is so highly developed and has very high social standards).

#10. No flip flops in Capri, Italy

A couple of tourists were arrested because their flip flops were too loud. If you wonder if the cops were just annoyed and did that in spite, you’re wrong. There is Italian law which protects “public security”. It is unknown how the flip flops were threatening the public security, but hey, maybe the sound was so annoying it was going to deafen people around.
