Science Says Going A Girl’s Trip With Your BFFs Is Good For Your Health
9The study on pain measurement and social bonding
The study on measuring pain and how relationships affected it found that a positive association exists between the activities of the opiod system. It found that endorphins which are neuropeptides that bind to opiod receptors in the central nervous system to create an analgesic in conditions of pain were impacted positively by social relationships and social bonding amongst primates. The study also found that measures of pain tolerance correlated with the size of a social network in humans. This also reaffirmed scientist’s beliefs that opiod receptor signaling was more elaborate and stretched beyond just the function of pain modulation and instead played a bigger role in managing social relationships.
10Social bonding releases the love hormone
Recent scientific evidence also states that when people enjoy time with their besties and friends, it can increase oxytocin which is a bother hormone in the body that helps the brain feel and experience happiness and positive feelings. Oxytocin also called the love drug is released by the pituitary gland and is released when people are in love, cuddle or bond socially. The more of oxytocin you have in your body, the happier you will feel. A person also becomes more trusting friendlier and generous. This also means that by having friends, you too learn to be a better friend and become better at managing relationships. Your desire to mix with friend’s increases and so do friends want to spend more time with you.
11But what about those who are shy or introverted
This may not be good news for those who are introverted, shy or apprehensive of making friends. However social media makes it now easier to have and interact with friends but it isn’t the same. You will have to be a little outgoing and make an effort to mix with people who you feel good to be around with. It dents have to be a large number of people. Even having one or two best friends is also a very good thing and provides the same benefits.
According to psychologist William Chopik from Michigan State University: “Keeping a few really good friends around can make a world of difference for our health and well-being. So, it’s smart to invest in the friendships that make you happiest.”
12Women taking vacation experienced reduced stress
Now, this sounds like a nice excuse to take that long awaited girl trip you were waiting for with your besties. A report in Forbes also mentioned that women taking vacations tend to be less tense stressed out and depressed or tired. They were also happier in their relationship with their partner or spouse. It is not just going out for dinner or to run an errand together, the key to deriving all these benefits is travel because women who don’t go out and see the world increase their risk of illness, and heart disease. It doesn’t necessarily mean travelling out of the country, even travelling to another part of the city where you haven’t been before can do the trick.
13It’s time to take a trip with your besties
It may not be easy for some women to leave their partners and family or parents but it is also worth noting that women who do go on trips with their besties were found by the study to be happier not just in their travel time and social circle but in their families as well. So sit down with your spouse and explain to them how you can benefit and be a happier person so that they are ok with you going off on that weekend trip with your besties. After all you owe it to yourself and your well being.
