France has just completed the World’s First Solar Road and the cost is shocking
In the perilous times of global warming and the depletion of the ozone layer, some countries are making a big effort in advocating the use of solar energy to an amazing. France especially is paving the way for innovation in uses of solar energy by pioneering the very first solar road.
When completed it will be the world’s first solar road which will double both as a thoroughfare and a constant source of renewable energy. The 1km strip of road will even produce the entire demand of electricity for a village of 3,400 people.
1 The man behind the project
The man instrumental in implementing such an adventurous but unique project is the Environment minister of France Segolene Royal. France has always been a favorite haunt for holidaymakers and honeymooners alike, but now the country will be also famous for its contribution to protection of the environment.

2 Special resins used for construction of panels
The world’s first solar road was constructed by a company called Colas Wattaway Technology at a cost of $ 5.2 million most of which was spent in procuring a special kind of resin that covers the five layers of silicon making up the plates. Each panel is extremely resistant and resistant to wear and tear made specially to last permanently.
3 The amazing solar road will power a whole village
The fantastic power output of the road is expected to generate 280 megawatt hours of power but taking weather conditions into account this may be reduced to 767 KWH which is very impressive. During a sunny day the output is expected to reach 1,500 kWh per day. Normally used for energy outputs are power transformers, which can be used for all sorts of constructions, e.g. lights, power grids, railways, etc. so this is a huge leap for solar energy to take.
According to company director Jean Charles Broizat, the project is still in trial and error or experimental phase. What’s advantageous for the project is the location that has allowed successful paneling of photovoltaic installation.
4 A step in the right direction for environmental preservation
When the world’s first solar road is formally completed and ready for use, France will have taken a giant leap in renewable energy paving the way for other countries to follow suit. Unfortunately there are critics like Marc Jedliczka; Vice President of the Network for Energetic Transition who feels it is too expensive a project to have practical uses.
However irrespective of criticism, France is going ahead with the project and though the cost may seem high, it still is a small price to pay seeing the mammoth destruction of the planet in terms of environmental erosion and global warming.
