As man relies more on technology, artificial intelligence will soon dictate your behavior and you won’t be the chooser anymore!! Confused?? Read on for looking one of the most interesting future scenarios put forward by an expert on robotics in Carnegie Mellon University.

1 Germs from Artificial Intelligence: The Epidemic of the Future

Professor Illah Nourbaksh expressed his views at a conference in MIT involving a panel discussion titled, “Life in 2015.” He voiced logical concerns that artificial intelligence could invade our political system and reach epidemic proportions akin to a widespread disease. Is this possible?? Well according to the professor it is and it will be caused by the germs that are the fall outs of computerized technology.

Professor Nourbaksh laid bare a future where user information collected online by way of smart gadgets will pave the way for politicians to manipulate voting behavior. The day isn’t too far when this scenario unravels itself.

2 Will Artificial Intelligence Secretly Collect and Use Information against You?

How many will agree to the fact that we as humans rely totally on machines even for the learning process? In our reliance on artificial intelligence, we are educating machines in almost every sphere of our lives. The internet has access to tons of data on personal information and user behavior. Do you know what this means?

When artificial intelligence has freehold access to human data, it could well predict an individual’s preconceived actions based upon behavioral patterns analyzed from the same data.

3 Artificial Intelligence Is Used By Social Media to Analyze User Behavior

Did you know that even Facebook utilizes the help of artificial intelligence to analyze user behavior to deduct what its users find interesting and what they don’t? This is called the Echo chamber effect. WHATEVER you POST on the NET, even your photograph gets converted into an algorithm and is construed as data for a machine’s future reference in connection to all activity performed by you. Thus we are the education syllabus for machines today.

Such a scenario now leads to the ultimate question. Will we still have free will? Or will this take us back to the time of George Orwell’s ‘1984.’ In fact the central theme of Orwell’s 1984 is very similar to the concerns expressed by Professor Nourbaksh, where machines rule with the perennial scare of ‘Big brother is watching you’.

4 The Echo Chamber Effect: Creating False Perception for Human Manipulation

Professor Nourbaksh goes on to state that technology’s ability to the analysis of human behavior could well be misused by politicians to manipulate voters. Programs that predict a voter’s behavior could well be conceived to that effect and available to the richest bidder.

To quote professor Nourbaksh”If you’re getting exposed to a set of directions just right to get you to vote a certain way, that echo chamber you’re being built into has high walls,” he continued. “It can stop you from seeing the whole landscape. And in doing so, it could make you less informed.”

The present day scenario, where human is dependent on machines provides sufficient evidence to support the plausible scenario where the future of voting could be dystopian nightmare.

5 Who Will Stop The Tech Majors From Collecting Data Generated By Technology?

The most common example is Clear Channel Outdoor whose proposed billboards across the US will possess the ability to collect data stored on your cell phone to analyze your behavior to produce and improve advertising. Channel Outdoor will be able to determine specifics like age and gender of consumers. And! While creating an Instagram post depends on a willful decision, other forms of artificial intelligence are picking up data that you unknowingly oblige with through your cell phone.

But shouldn’t it be a cause of worry that data of thousands of kids are contained within the programs of some of the biggest Tech corporations in the world?

6 When Will Ethics Come Into Play?

Professor Nourbaksh was also quoted as saying “People get their engineering degrees and never take an ethics class.” He even added that people don’t even study about the kind of inequalities that exist in society.

We will appear to be voting but we actually won’t as our behavior will be already pre-empted by the powers. The behavior of the human race will be dictated by artificial intelligence controlled by one who may well be called the real “Big Brother”!
