7The Go Fund Me campaign

In the wake of this tragedy, the most important thing for Steven’s family is to get his body back home for a proper funeral and burial. Costs of getting the body back to the US are quite high. So the family has started a Go Fund Me campaign to raise enough money to get Steven back to the US.

8How this tragedy could have been avoided

Needless to say, this tragedy was entirely avoidable. We understand the need for people to make grand gestures, but common sense should always prevail. With better preparation and planning Steven could have pulled off the proposal and lived to hear his bride say yes. However, he did it in the spur of the moment, without an oxygen tank or a diving suit and succumbed.

9Grand proposals

You may have noticed that social media and the Internet, in general, are full of pictures and videos from couples’ weddings and dramatic proposals. No one likes to keep their relationship private anymore and everyone wants a few hundred likes on their social media post. The best way to do this is with a grand proposal. Whether on land, in the air or in water, people have tried everything. This story proves that nothing too good can result from such dangerous acts.

10Better preparation

If you must do it in a grand manner, at least take precautions and be fully prepared. Steven should have been better prepared with a diving suit, an oxygen tank and probably, an instructor. Anytime you want to do something grand and dangerous, take precautions and know what preparations you need. After all, the proposal is pointless if the bride and groom are not there.
