A 17-Year-Old Has Created A Website That Includes All Data About Coronavirus and Millions Are Now Using It
8Latest discovery about the virus generates pictures of how it infects a cell
While Avi keeps updating his website, there is new information coming in all the time about the coronavirus where scientists are now claiming that they have discovered how the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 binds with the respiratory cells of humans and hijacks them to produce more viruses.
The research was led by a research fellow at Westlake University in Hangzhou China. It revealed how the new virus attaches itself to as receptor cell that is called angiotensin-converting enzyme or ACE 2. In fact, they have generated pictures all the way down to atomic level where atoms interact at the binding interface.
9What the experts say
Thomas Gallagher a virologist at Loyola University of Chicago said that such information was unusual at this stage of the virus outbreak. “The virus outbreak only began to occur a couple months ago, and within that short period of time, these authors have come up with information that I think traditionally takes much longer,” Gallagher said. That’s important, he said, because understanding how the virus enters cells can contribute to research on drugs or even a vaccine for the virus.”
10Vigilance and handwashing the two biggest weapons against coronavirus
For the majority of people, the new coronavirus or covid19 causes mild symptoms and 80% will recover. No, not everyone is going to fall down like flies as suggested by all those beating the doomsday drum. In fact, healthy people will recover even without major medical attention. Those who are vulnerable include elderly, and with underlying medical condition in whom the risk of complications is greater and will need hospitalization.
11Read the WHO guidelines to prevent coronavirus
According to the Doctors Association UK, it’s more important to accurately understand what techniques are most effective to combat the virus or prevent its spread. They suggest listening and referring to the WHO website for complete guidelines. The CDC in the US also lists guidelines in how to prevent coronavirus. The best advice till date is vigilance and washing of hands for at least 20 seconds as well as self-isolation. You can watch AVI’s dashboard and website for all updates.
