8While UK has reported a decrease in death, the cases have spiked. The US sees the largest spike in deaths in a single day
Given the present scenario in the coronavirus, the UK has recorded 43 deaths in the past 24 hours which is a decrease in comparison to 87 on Tuesday. But new infections have increased by a huge number from 1452 to 9529 as several Britons flout lockdown rules. The current death toll in Britain is 465 including a 47-year-old who did not even have an underlying health condition.
In the US there was a dramatic spike in the number of deaths on Wednesday amounting to 223, the highest number of deaths in a single day since the virus took hold in the country. The total number of cases has now crossed the 68K marker with more than 1000 deaths showing in worldometer. As per a report in CNN, experts say that cases are expected to increase as tests are administered. The spike comes in the wake of President Donald Trump announcing the lifting of the lockdown before Easter, although now he may be having second thoughts.
9A nurse now advises people to cut their nails
A nurse has also now come out in Australia with very valid advice saying that long nails could be one of the fastest spreaders of the coronavirus. She has also showed on her social media a simple way to tell if your nails are short enough.
She says ‘Among all the hand-washing instructions and the fun 20-second song suggestions, I haven’t seen anyone note that it is impossible to wash your hands properly if your fingernails are long,’ the woman wrote. She revealed how it was easy for bacteria, viruses, dirt and debris can live in your fingernails which are also transferred to your mouth when you bite them.
10Here’s what she advises
‘If you can’t put your fingernails straight down against your other palm without your nails adding too much distance to do it, you cannot wash under your fingernails properly unless you use a nail brush every time,’ she said.
She says that this test should be tried at home to see if your nails need to be cut. Even as many use hand sanitizers at regular intervals during the spread of the virus, for those with long nails, sanitizers no use. ‘If you can’t rub the very ends of your fingers against the other palm, then your hands aren’t truly clean after you wash them, no matter how long you soap up,’ she wrote.
She concluded: ‘Please, during this global emergency, keep your nails short.’
