It showed a large bird flying off clutching a wriggling fish that looked clearly like a shark. People were astounded and shocked at the bird with a dangerous predator gripped firmly in its claws. But many feel it was something else.

The predatory bird flying over the heads of stunned beachgoers on Myrtle Beach generated a mammoth response of social media like Facebook and twitter. A CBS news report after an investigation said that the video of the bird with a shark in its claws was captured by one Ashley White and was shared by Kelly Burbage on Facebook with a caption “Eagle? Condor? Caught a shark in Myrtle Beach!” Surprisingly the video chalked up a mammoth 23.3 million views on twitter.

The video of the wriggling fish trying to free itself from the claws of the bird was shared on a public group “Tracking sharks” solicited comments and help from many in hopes of finding out if it was really a shark or something else. “Anyone know what type of bird this is and is it holding a shark?” Tracking Sharks asked. Not many could give a definite answer. No one really noticed at the time.

The video of the bird with what appears to be a wriggling shark in its claws was shared on the twitter group Tracking Sharks and it immediately triggered a debate as to what it could be. Wholesome agreed it was a shark, many felt it could be mackerel, ladyfish or bluefish. Many agreed that the bird was a large bird of prey called the Osprey.
