Tiger Creates Epic Record Walking Over 1300 Km in 5 Months In Search of a Mate and Prey
8India’s tiger population is increasing
In India the number of tigers has slowly increased thanks to vigilance and efforts made for conservation. However, their habitat is slowly shrinking and prey is also reducing making the effort all the more difficult. Every tiger needs a breeding prey population by at least 500 animals in its immediate territory to ensure constant supply of food. The picture below is of the same tiger C1 when it was being radio-collared.
9India has a scattered tiger population
India is presently home to almost 3,000 tigers which has increased by a third more than four years ago as per the latest tiger census. The tiger population is said to be increased from 2,226 in 2014 to 2,967 in 2018. The tiger populations showed the most increase in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka with Uttarkhand and Maharashtra coming in a close second.

In a statement, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared “Nine years ago it was decided in St. Petersburg that the target of doubling the tiger population would be 2022, we in India completed the target 4 years earlier,” said Modi after releasing the fourth edition of the census. “Today, we can proudly say that with nearly 3,000 tigers, India is the safest place for tigers in the world.”
