This woman is fighting with the authorities to keep her pet alligator that wears clothes and watches TV!
Wouldn’t you just love to have an alligator as a pet?? Well!! This woman in Florida does and his name is RAMBO!!
Alligators are intimidating, even frightening and you definitely wouldn’t want to get close to one, but not gentle Rambo. This 6 foot Alligator is a gentle giant who lives with Mary Thorn in Florida. Rambo eats dinner with Mary, sometimes sleeps in her bed and behaves like a regular well trained pet. Sounds really sweet no doubt, but this woman is fighting to keep her pet alligator as animal authorities are threatening to take him away.
1 Authorities Are Refusing To Allow Rambo To Stay With Mary
You have to see this to believe it, Rambo is a sweet alligator who was raised since the time it was a baby by 55-year-old Mary Thorn who lives in Florida, USA. When Mary rescued Rambo, he was just a foot long. Rambo is now 15 years old, 6 feet long and weighs 125 pounds. That is why the Florida Fish and Wildlife authorities are refusing to extend Mary’s permit to keep the alligator citing wildlife laws that require an animal of his size to be kept in enclosures amounting to 2.5 acres. Mary does not have access to that much land.
FWC spokesman Gary Morse was quoted as saying “This is a very complex case, especially since she acquired the gator before some changes in permit conditions.” He declared that Mary had applied for a permit extension but it was denied. However the good news is that innumerous issues have been raised specially about Rambo’s attachment to Mary. Local support has also been instrumental in Mary’s case being reviewed by the authorities.
2 This Alligator Has Skills You Wouldn’t Believe and He Loves His Human Mamma
In a bid to consolidate her case, Mary is lobbying for support from the local community because she claims that Rambo is her ‘second son.’
As for Rambo, the alligator is already a celebrity and the star of several small shows, which Mary used to put up for the benefit of charity in local areas. The alligator has been taught to ride an ATV alongside Mary who rides on her motorcycle.
Moreover, the alligator is extremely fond of Mary, eats dinner at the same table and follows Mary around like a little pet dog. It is for such reasons that she is fighting to keep her pet alligator from authorities.
3 Rambo Is Extremely Sensitive To Sunlight. Wears Clothes For Protection!
Believe it or not, but Rambo the alligator has to wear clothes and not just for the shows. Thorn explained to her interviewers that when she found little Rambo 7 years ago, he was trapped in a small tank and most probably had survived for a long period without sunlight. As a result, the alligator is extremely sensitive to sunlight and has to be protected. What better way than to make him wear a cool set of lowers and matching shirt?!
Mary proclaims that she is not in favor of keeping wild alligators from their natural environment. However, Rambo is a unique case and may just not survive in the wild hence he needs to be domesticated. “He’s too weak, and if he’s put out in the wild or in a place with other gators, they’ll kill him,” she said. “He’s also scared of outdoor noises, and he’s just used to being home with me. This is where he’s been his whole life and he’s attached to me.”
4 Will authorities allow Mary to keep Rambo? Only time will tell!!
Rambo has gone so attached to Mary that when he was little and fitted in her lap he would cling to her hair in case an attempt was made to remove him. The gator, plays with her dogs, steals food from the fridge when he is hungry, watches telly with Mary on a couch and even climbs into her van in the hopes he will be taken for a drive.
Now wouldn’t you like to have an alligator who behaves like Rambo?? Will Mary be allowed to keep her precious Rambo or will he be taken to a zoo, only time will tell. Meanwhile Watch the video and tell us what you feel should happen. Should Mary be allowed to keep her pet or should it be taken to the zoo?
