This is what you call love! 92 year old does something beautiful for his dying wife
Many people assume that romance fades as couples grow older, age and long lasting relationship seems to dim the light of love between couples. Some couples have a special something that reminds them of their young days or the first time they had met each other. That thing keeps the love between them alive and kicking.
A couple who had been married for 73 years rekindled their love for each other every year of their marriage. For them a song was their love memory and that reminded them of the good days that they had spent every year of their married life.
And when the wife was on her deathbed, the husband proved to everyone that true love lasts forever.
1 The couple
Erin Solari recently witnessed a moment so moving and touching that she had to share it with everyone and used social media for this purpose.
Erin’s grandfather Howard who is 92 years old and his grandmother Laura who is 93 have been married for 73 years. They live in Gainesville, Florida and have 9 children and 18 grandchildren. Laura is blind and also suffers from dementia and only recognises her husband.
Also she is in her final stages of life and is in hospice care.
2 Their love story and the touching moment
The couple has been married for 73 years and 93 year old Howard has fought in the Second World War “After 50 years of marriage, they renewed their vows and performed this song as a duet for the entire family at the reception,” she wrote.
Recently, her grandfather visited her grandmother in the hospice care. When her grandmother realized that her husband was in the room, she asked if she could hold him. The grand dad is also in wheelchair and couldn’t get up, but immediately brought his wheelchair near to her bed.
Her grandfather looked his wife in her eyes and began singing a song that both of them have sung multiple times since they got married. They even sang the song when they renewed their wedding vows on the 50th anniversary of their wedding.
Although her grandmother is almost blind, but according to Solari, that doesn’t stop her from looking deep into her husband’s eyes.
3 The original song “You’ll never know” by Harry James & Rosemary Clooney
The clip, uploaded to Facebook by Erin Solari earlier this month, shows the young woman’s 92-year-old grandfather Howard singing “You’ll Never Know” — a love song popular in the 1940s and 1950s — to his wife as he gently strokes her face.
“The outpouring of love [has] lifted everyone’s spirits … including Grandma’s,” Solari wrote. “We all thank you so much for the love and kind words.” Solari explained that the couple used to sing this song at all their family gatherings and special occasions and it was her grandfather’s way of telling her wife that he still loved her after 73 years of marriage. It must have also brought immense relief and comfort in her last days to know that despite her going blind and suffering from dementia, her husband still loves her as much he did since day one of their marriage 73 years ago.
4 The video of the husband singing for his wife
Erin also said that, “since Laura is now too weak to sing, which is why in the video she can only say the words to her beloved (at around the one-minute mark) before he chimes in with the rest of the song.”
The Facebook video has been viewed more than 3.4 million times till now. In addition to the audio and the video, Solari recently uploaded the clip on YouTube with added subtitles. She also encompassed a message of appreciation to all the social media users who have been offering words of encouragement and support.
