This Father Would Sneak Into His Daughter’s Bedroom Just to Check If She Was Alive, But Why?

5Her parents would sit at the foot of her bed

Steve also described how he and his wife would sit at the foot of her bed or on the ground just so that they could be lost to her. They felt helpless and that’s all they could do to be close to her. It also comforted them to know she was alive even as doctors were giving up hope.

6She weighed only 62 pounds

Gemma weighed only 62 pounds at the age of 14. Doctors warned the family that if they did not do something fast about her eating issues, she would get worse. She needed a professional nutritionist or dietician’s help. It came to such a point that doctors ultimately gave Gemma just 2 days to live. Gemma at the time felt helpless and wanted to give up. She said she ‘felt numb. The days just melted into each other and I wished each day by, hoping that I would just pass peacefully in my sleep.’

7She survived but her condition graduated to something else

Although Gemma survived, her condition continued. She just refused to eat anything and continued losing weight. She would even trick her parents and doctors into believing that she was gaining weight by tying gym weights to her ankles so that her weight was increased on the weighing scale.

8She suffered for seven long years

Gemma was almost in and out of the hospital for the next seven years. She was also admitted into the ICU and on two occasions was made to enter the psychiatric ward. It was extremely tough for her parents watching her repeatedly suffer. They too were suffering along with her because it was hard to know that their little girl was going through so much pain. ‘Seven years is a long time to have your baby suffering, a long time to have your child numb, with no voice, no personality—just a lethal, controlling obsession.’
