One has to wonder where some of the folks get their information and beliefs. In a recent survey, nearly 20% of Americans do not know even where they received their Independence from. Some American’s believe that President Bush originated as an alien or that President Obama is not a United States Citizen. There are some folks that think the word Jargon is the name of the planet in the solar system. These ideas and misconceptions are not only hilariously funny but somewhat disturbing.
1 Improve Your Computer’s Speed By Refreshing
Many folks think that refreshing your computer will improve the speed. The bottom line is unfortunately it will not. The only way to do this would be to be additional memory or remove programs that are taking up much computer disk space. The misconception on this started back when computer technicians would have to refresh their computers with earlier versions of windows. You see whenever your system adds or removes a file from your desktop it needs to update. Microsoft has since built in a feature that allows this to take place automatically. However, there are times when it would need to be done manually say for example you had to rearrange your icons then the manual update would be needed. This compulsive habit which started many years ago is one of the many reasons folks think refreshing will speed up your computer.
2 The Mother Board Is a Deck on Some Ship
Unless you are buried in the sand as in the misconception of some of these folks in a recent study then, you know that the Motherboard is one of the main components of your computer. However in a recent survey some 42% of people think that the motherboard is a deck on a cruise ship. As if this was not bad enough another 4% of those surveyed thought the motherboard was a female managing director.
3 We Have A New Planet Called Jargon
Here is a classic. Five percent of the American public believe that Jargon is a planet in the solar system.Unless there was a new world discovered which there has not been then, these folks are way off base. Jargon is the definition used for the language of a particular profession. Jargon differs from one profession to another. For example, the jargon of education professionals would be entirelydifferent from those who are in the legal field. Interesting enough twelve percent of those polled believe that the jargon is an exotic meat.
4 HTML Is An STD
Eleven percent of Americans polled believe that HTML is a form of a sexually transmitted disease while another ten percent believe it is a road in England. What HTML is is the language that your browser uses to convey web pages so you may see the beautiful pictures and text. Chances are this page you are reading is being read online and is using HTML code.
5 We got our Independence from Mexico
That is no mistake folks about 3% of American polled believe that the United States took its Independence from such countries like Russia, China, and Mexico. Another 2% believe we declaredindependence from France. A staggering 20% are not even which country we declared Independence from.
6 Our Leaders Are Not From This Country Or Better Yet This World
Here is some off the wall beliefs. Twenty-five percent of Americans polled feel that President Barack Obama is not even from this country. Others believe that former President George Bush is a descendant of aliens. There are other crazy theories out there such as nearly 20% of Americans surveyed believed there was a UFO crash near Roswell, New Mexico.
