This single mom won $200 but what she did with the money is amazing
The true meaning of a Good Samaritan is sacrifice even in the face of your own problems. What single mom Sofia Andrade did with her $200 prize winning scratch ticket won in Wareham Massachusetts was nothing short of commendable despite of being utterly excited of how she would spend the prize with her family.
On 13th February 2016, Sofia left the gas station in excitement. She wasn’t a rich woman and was facing problems of her own. But as she was about to leave, a sight outside the station created within her a dilemma and she wondered what was she to do. This single mom bought a winning ticket but was placed with a difficult decision.
1 She saw a homeless man crying
Sofia saw a homeless man named Glen shivering and crying. He was disheveled and cold. Sofia noticed he was holding a sign. When she read what was written on it, her heart melted. It aid “Anything would help”
Moments ago an elated sofa was making plans for a celebration with her family. But there was Glen, in the cold desperate for help. Sofia rolled down her window and offered to treat him to a coffee. Glen reluctantly agreed and so she took him to Dunkin Donuts. Over coffee, Glen opened up to Sofia revealing that he had been sleeping on the streets for three years. He had no bed and slept using a sleeping bag.
2 Sofia understood the purpose of her winning $200
Glen’s heartbreaking story touched Sofia and she couldn’t help thinking about the $200 that she had won. It was then that Sofia understood perhaps the reason why she had just won $200. It wasn’t a coincidence. She felt that God had knowingly placed glen in her path. She knew then what she needed to do.
After finishing their coffee, Sofia told Glen to get into the car. She called several shelters but none had room. What Sofia did next was beautiful. She drove Glen to Rosewood Inn located at Wareham and checked him in for 2 nights. Sofia paid the bill in advance with the $200 that she had won.
3 Sofia’s story went viral
In Sofia’s own words, “I’ve never seen a grown man cry; he began praying and telling me I was an angel. So tonight I know my new friend Glenn is warm.” Sofia posted her story on Facebook and it immediately went viral. For Glen Sofia was indeed an angel sent by God because he started receiving donations within 2 days. Her friends even started sending him food and clothes. Glen was overjoyed to receive $20, 000 in help.
This single mom bought a winning ticket of $200 but though she didn’t get the money she still considers herself a winner because she won much more than that, What Sofia won was that immense feeling of joy in knowing she had made a difference in someone’s life.
