See what the teenager hacker has to say about the hacking of CIA Director’s email account
The news of the hacking of the CIA director’s email account, was first reported by the New York Post, after the hacking themselves called into the newspaper. This happened last week and since then the hackers are having a field play where they are boasting about their hacking skills in interviews to various media outlets. The hackers also accessed the internet provider account of the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson and heard his voicemails. The FBI and Secret Service are now investigating the whole matter, which in the CIA Director’s own words epitomizes cyber threat. Take a look at the whole story.
1 How did it all happen?
The hacker claims that he broke into the AOL account of the CIA director, John Brennon by posing as a Verizon worker. He tricked an employee of the company into revealing personal information of the CIA Chief. From that information, they got his name, address, phone no, social security no, and even the last four digits of the Brennon’s credit card. All this was enough for them to be able to hack into the personal e-mail account of the CIA director.
2 Who are the hackers?
The hacker says that he is less than 22 years of age, lives in America and that he did not do this thing alone. The group calls themselves CWA- Crackas with Attitude, and all of them are American High School Students. The hacker is not a Muslim and the main motive behind this hacking was to free Palestine. They basically want Israel to stop killing innocent people. Although, he admits that he may have done the hacking when he was high on Marijuana, but he knows what he has done and is actually scared of the repercussions.
3 The information that got leaked
The group CWA started posting screen shots of the information they got from the e-mail account on their Twitter page. Subsequently all the pages of the group got deleted or suspended. They also passed on the documents to Julain Assange’s Wiki-leaks. Wiki-leaks released some of the documents and say they would be publishing more in the coming days. Some of the documents on which they could get a hold on, was an earlier version of a bill defining the limits of the interrogation method. The leaked documents also have the letter from the Missouri Republican Senator Christopher Bond, who was then a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. Another document with the hackers is a 47 page SF-86 application which the CIA Director had filled to obtain his top secret government security clearance. Though none of the documents are classified documents, but still some really sensitive data got stolen from the email account. Most of these documents are from a period before 2008 and Brennon assumed office in 2013.But it still is a great threat the entire Cyber security scene.
4 Is the level of Cyber Security Threat this high?
Would you believe the hackers had control on his e-mail account for three days? During this period Brennon changed his password three times but the hackers kept re-jacking it. They finally called him up to tell that his e-mail account had actually been hacked. The hacking of CIA director’s email account really shows that cyber threat looms as a major security threat not only for normal people but also top government officials. Now if this can happen with the Chief of Intelligence wing of the US government, then how on earth is any information safe on internet!
5 Another Snowden in the making!
The teenager who talked to CNN says that he knows the government is really mad and he might get tortured. So he actually plans to go and chill with Snowden in Russia. Take a look at the interview of the hacker in which the hacker even went on to say that the CIA Director is stupid. He also said that it was really very easy for him to get the password of the email account and though he did not consider his group to be a bunch of really smart people, but he does not even consider himself and his group members to be stupid either.
