Scotland’s oldest woman is 109 years old and all because of her healthiest secret

She is 109 years old; she exercises and eats a breakfast of warm oats every morning. On January 2nd 2017, Jessie Galan will be 110 years old and there are definitely many more to go by the way she looks now which will surprise you. Jesse has a great sense of Humor and advises everyone to eat a lot of porridge just like she does. But that’s not the only rule in her book to live a long life.


Scotland’s oldest woman says the biggest secret for a woman to live a long healthy life is to stay away from men. Jessie Gallan has never been married.

1 Jessie Left home at 13 to be a milkmaid

Scotland’s oldest woman lived her life with six siblings in a small two farm cottage. At 13 she left home and became a milkmaid. She went on to become a farm kitchen helper of a hotel that was frequented by the Queen and the Queen Mother. Today Jessie lives in a care home at Aberdeen. ‘”My secret to a long life has been staying away from men. They’re just more trouble than they’re worth.


‘I also made sure that I got plenty of exercise, eat a nice warm bowl of porridge every morning and have never gotten married.

2 Still going strong with exercise and porridge

According to senior support worker Rebecca Streeter, Jessie is very active in group activities and exercises regularly. She goes to concerts and church on Sundays. Ever since the death of Clare Dawson aged 109 in 2013, Jessie has become Scotland’s oldest woman. Currently the oldest living person in the UK is Ethel Lang 114 from South Yorkshire.

Jessie Galan celebrated her 109th birthday in the care home at Aberdeen with a slice of cake. She finds it hard to believe how the world has changed since she was young. Her healthy lifestyle was due to exercise, oatmeal porridge and NO men!! Watch her video.
