Scientists Reveal Why Hand Dryers Are Harmful For Health. You Might Want To Consider Not Using Them
It is a robotic action observed by almost everyone who enters a public toilet in movie halls, hotels, and malls. Once you do your business and wash your hands, you automatically place them beneath the hand dryer to dry off. Most will do this rather than use a tissue or their own handkerchief to dry their hands. Now scientists have declared that hand dryers are not hygienic at all. While you may be thinking that you are observing good hygiene and that a hand dryer is a much better option because it also saves paper, it is not entirely clean because hand dryers as research says are full of bacteria.
1Hand dryers are not as hygienic as they seem
That’s right, according to new research, hand dryers are not at all hygienic as people think them to be. That motion of going and placing your hands beneath a hand dryer in a public restroom is transferring more germs onto your hands that you could think of. Hand dryers dump a huge amount of bacteria on your hands and they aren’t safe at all.
2Hand dryers do spread several types of germs
When hand dryers first appeared in restrooms worldwide, they were an instant hit and regarded as something helpful and hygienic. It was also considered very eco-friendly because a hand dryer eliminated the use of tissue paper and that was one large advantage because it meant a huge reduction in the incessant use of toilet paper in restrooms. That means a huge contribution to the environment.
3Eco friendly machines but with germs
Even as hand dryers were perceived as an eco-friendly machine, a debate raged on about them being germ cannons. To arrive at a conclusion, research was conducted at the University of Connecticut and Quinnipiac University where a number of Petri dishes were exposed to restroom air under varied conditions. These were done studied in a laboratory.
4What the study found
The results confirmed the scientist’s worst fears. When the Petri dishes were left inside a bathroom for only 2 minutes with hand dryers switched off, they found just a single colony of bacteria. But as soon as the hand dryer was switched on for 30 seconds, the entire scenario changed. What the scientists then found in the other set of Petri dishes shocked them.
