Russian Teacher Forced To Quit Over Controversial Photos Posted On Social Media
We all have had teachers but the one thing we didn’t have was social media. When we were in school we didn’t have social media by which we could see what our teachers did in their free time but now we do. In today’s technological and social media dependent age we can see what the people we know do in their free time.
This is all great but what this doesn’t allow us to do is judge them and take actions against them doing something normal just because we feel it is inappropriate. Today’s story digs deeper into this topic of how a teacher’s after-school life and hobby can lead to her losing her job.
1Teacher and swimmer
Tatyana Kuvshinnikova loves her job as a fifth-grade teacher but also loves swimming and if you have ever been around a swimming pool you should know there is a certain dress code you need to follow. The dress code of a teacher in school and someone at a swimming pool is polar opposite but when worn at their own time and the right place should never cause any problem, right?
2The unfortunate photo
As we said before Tatyana loves her job and her hobby of being a swimmer so she never thought that a simple image of her love for swimming posted on her social media could cause any problem. Unfortunately for our lovely teacher living in the city of Barnaul in western Siberia, she faced backlash and criticism from parents for her image and had to step down from her job.
3What was the image?
There wasn’t a single image but a few. All these images were related to her swimming and that too the images were taken at the Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk in Russia as she was a member and activist of The Altay Federation of Winter Swimming. These images look like anything one would see around a pool.
4Who caused the issue?
This problem wasn’t caused by the school or administration but by a parent who saw the images on the teacher’s social media. They contacted the school and complained to the principal that is was a “spot on the reputation of the school”. This was a lie as the images were taken off campus and away from the school and during the teacher’s free time.
5The other teachers’ support
Once the news got out that the school was taking action against Tatyana, the other teachers stepped in. They knew what the school was doing was wrong and they started the hashtag “Teachers Are Human Beings Too”. They posted their own photos in swimsuits and vacation photos. This was all in response to make the school and parents realize that the teachers are not slaves after school ends.
