Amazing illustrations showing peoples predictions about the future in 1901

Picture yourself writing a note outlining your expectations of yourself or what you might think about the future when you were five and again reading it when you are 55. How amazing and thrilling would that be. Well we never knew it till now but that experiment did take place a hundred years ago.

You’ll be well and truly surprised if not amazed to know that over a hundred years ago in France people were asked to illustrate their expectations of the future. The year was 1901 and when you see their drawings, you’re going to be thrilled to know that these weren’t Nostradamus predictions but alternatives to technology which though seemed futuristic then is even more advanced and a way of life for us now… Take a look at peoples predictions about the future in 1901.

1 Information from books being cranked into students brains

Coming to think of it, just ten years ago this would be regarded as similar to audio books and audio transmitted information minus the weird shredding aspect. But today, technology has surpassed our expectations to achieve the unthinkable where scientists have linked up their minds to computers to perform tasks. Soon information will be fed directly into our brains too.

2 Video and picture communication

Video communication is common now with webcams and smart phones. What you’re seeing here is a pretty much primitive example of modern day video conferencing and skyping.

3 Robotic Household Help

How true is that? As far as people’s predictions about the future goes, this is one technology that just keeps evolving. Robotic technology now has robots equipped and programmed to perform household tasks. But leave alone tasks, today we have robotic arms in space exploration and medical surgery.

4 Hunting from the sky, jet propulsion

Although the concept is correct where aeronautical technology has made man capable of flying in airplanes and fighter aircraft, the time will soon come when jet propulsion packs won’t be used just for recreation and research but rather as a common means of warfare and even hunting. The concept is uncanny and correct.

5 Car spaceships for transport

Although this picture shows a hybrid between a spaceship and a car, the time isn’t far off when the world tests its first flying cars heralding a futuristic space age just like you see in the movies. In fact a flying car is all set to be unveiled by Slovakian company Aeromobil in 2017.

6 Aerial sport

While not entirely accurate, the concept is not entirely impossible as the technology exists for such a venture. It’s just the sport that isn’t. With jet propulsion, aerial sport is an easy possibility. Who knows with jet propelled brooms we could well see the 21st century version of Quidditch soon.

7 Microbe and bacteria research with projectors

Those who conceived such ideas may have been geniuses in the making as such a concept is easily possible today. Microbes and bacteria research instead of just being projected on wall is being viewed through a live feed on a computer screen.

8 Tour buses to travel and tour the city

Well we don’t have tour buses but we certainly do have helicopters which run tourist services in most cities around the world. Who knows we may soon have access to an open air helicopter or aeronautical machine such as the Aeromobil.

9 Music from a Gramophone

The man who drew this one got it certainly right, unfortunately he may have not have known that the technology was already there. The gramophone had just been invented in 1897 but obviously it may have not as yet been commercialized and might have cost a lot which at that time was around fifty cents.

10 Rollerblading

This looks more like a cross between a hover board and skates but who knows anything’s possible where skating evolved to rollerblading. The hoverboard on wheel such as the hawk has been invented who knows the hover board seen in the movie back to the future may soon be here too.

11 Humans controlling sea creatures

Well you may not see humans riding sea horses as seen in the picture but the concept of people’s predictions about the future is correct. Haven’t you been to water world, humans are controlling gigantic orcas, Killer whales and riding on the backs of dolphins, so it’s possible?

12 The whale bus

Well this one might be a bit too far fetched but it’s a thought all the same. If we can harness animals on the surface for transport. Perhaps we can do the same for whales.
