NASA Just Released Over 2000 Images of Mars and Some of Them Are Absolutely Stunning
6Linae Slopes at Hale crater
This looks like a touched up version of the Himalayas but it is actually recurring line slopes on Hales Crater that were formed presumably by the flow of briny liquid water on contemporary Mars. When this image was taken in 2017, it was spring in the Northern Hemisphere of Mars. Unlike Earth, the snow on Mars is actually carbon dioxide known as dry ice. The beautiful patterns are created by the sun shining on it making the ice crack and allowing gas to escape which carries dark sand arising from the dunes below.
8The possible landing site for next rover mission in 2020

9Rust dunes on Russell Crater
These are rust-colored dunes on the Russell Crater whose photos are a first of its kind taken by the HiRISE camera. The dunes are believed to have been formed by water. Others believe that the dunes have been formed by dry ice sliding down in spring when the climate is warmer.
10Dust and Frost
The MRO also found sand dunes existing in the polar regions of the red planet that showed shades of pale orange dust that was blown across the basaltic sand. The edges are still covered with dry ice. Some blocks of ice are visible at the foot of the alcove that may have been created by a sand avalanche.
