Mother thought it’s normal swelling. But, what came out is shocking!!

Babies will be babies and that means that their curiousness will always lead them to do stuff that usually should not be done. You have to be extremely watchful for anything they do, or they don’t do. Usually they say that silence is golden, but in the case of moving or walking babies, silence is very strange and full of doubts and sometimes even dangerous because you never know what your baby is up to while he is NOT making noises.

Sometimes thanks to their curiosity, the first thing they do after seeing a new thing is that they try to eat it. It doesn’t matter what thing is that and whether it is eatable or not, they will put it in their mouth. Parents have to be extra vigilant about things around their babies. Doing so can be dangerous to the health of the baby, but thankfully, in most occasions, the baby’s body will try to expel the thing out, if it is harmful.

One such thing came out of this baby’s neck and it has baffled the doctors and the parents.

1 The baby

Seven month old Mya Whittington is like any normal seven month old baby. She is a bubbly, cute bundle of extreme energy who likes to explore new things and avenues often inside her crib and even outside. Being parents of a small girl, her parents Aaron and Emma Whittington were very protective of their child, taking every precaution in the world.

But one day, the baby suddenly started to cry and became very uncomfortable. Her face on the left size had swelled up to the size of a golf ball. The parents looked extremely concerned for their daughter and immediately took her to her pediatrician.

2 Initial doubt

The pediatrician checked Mya thoroughly and despite a full checkup, the doctor concluded that it was probably a swollen gland and that Mya’s body would eventually fight the mild infection by itself and she will be alright in a day or two. She was given antibiotics to fight the infection and was sent home.

But Mya’s parents were shocked to see the size of the swelling getting double overnight and this made them extremely worried and they immediately took her to the nearest hospital without much delay.

“Sunday morning, when we woke up, it had doubled in size and there was a pimple-looking thing on the end of it,” Mya’s father Aaron said. “We’re looking at it and going, ‘There’s no way this is a swollen gland.'”

3 What exactly came out?

Mya was admitted in the hospital in Hutchinson, Kansas and the doctors thought that she had staph infection in the lymph nodes. But at the hospital, Mya’s grandmother noticed a pimple appearing on the swelling that was twice the size of her jaw.

The doctors decided to break the pimple and drain it out, but to their surprise, nothing came out. Doctors gave Mya another round of antibiotics and the next day, her parents noticed something that shocked them out of their wits.

They noticed a string like thing protruding out of her swollen pimple. The doctor was called again and after putting on the gloves she pulled out on the string. To the surprise of everyone present there, the doctor pulled out a 2 inch long feather from her neck.

“’It’s a feather.’ And we’re like, ‘What do you mean it’s a feather?’ And she showed us,” Whittington said, still in disbelief.

4 Doctor’s opinion

The Doctor’s best guess to the incident was that Mya might have inhaled the feather or tried eating it and it got lodged in the throat. The body’s defense mechanism tried to expel the feather after the body rejected the foreign object.

The little girl is now almost fully healed and recovered. The knot formed in the swollen part decided to break up on its own and it was confirmed that Mya will not have to undergo the knife to remove it.
