This young mother was left brain damaged after a botched cosmetic surgery
Cosmetic surgery is mostly done by well-trained and experienced medical professionals. Patients sometimes get cosmetic surgery to correct a natural flaw or something medically required. But for others, it’s more about increasing something that god didn’t provide them. But while doing so, they need to keep in mind that such processes are very expensive and could cost lots of money just for a breast augmentation.
There are clinics and doctors who use substandard material or do not have the proper credentials and are ready to do the surgery for a much less price. But with them come the dangers of substandard surgery and botched operations. Here is an example of substandard surgery leaving a young mother in a sorry state.
1 Linda Perez -The unfortunate victim
Linda Perez wanted to get a breast implant surgery so bad that she was counting days for her to turn 18 years old. She was a normal teenager who was just insecure about her looks and wanted to look better. The 18-year-old was also a mother to a son and her decision to get surgery at an unlicensed clinic proved to be an extremely costly one for her. She chose Coral Gables Cosmetic Center in Miami and went for the procedure when was eighteen in 2013. She previously had a butt augmentation surgery done and this was supposed to be her second surgery.
2 The botched breast implant surgery
Five minutes into surgery, Perez started to develop alarming drops in her heart beats and blood pressure. The anesthetic Dr. Mario Alberto Diaz saw the girl fall into coma and tried the best a doctor could and resuscitate her. After trying for 20 minutes, she was transferred to Mercy hospital where she was in coma for weeks. Due to lack of oxygen, she suffered severe brain damage, which has left her at the mercy of others. She can’t speak or move or walk and is dependent on others for tasks like bathing, feeding, bathroom trips and everything else.
“I tell the daughters and mothers to think it over before going to those clinics, because they never know how they are going to come out. They should accept what they have naturally.” Linda’s mother, Mariela said. Perez’s doctor is a convicted felon who served 30 months in federal prison for drug trafficking.
3 Perez was not compensated properly
Linda’s son is now four years old and her parents are filing in court to take legal guardianship of the child. Her mother says that her daughter is no longer able to take care for herself and her son. All of the medical expenses are astronomical and not feasible for the family to take care of, on their own. She says that they are in desperate need of help.
She also said that her daughter has become a baby again and she has to teach her to eat, someone has to carry her to the bathroom and she has to learn to walk again like a small kid. However the surgeon who is to be blamed, for Perez’s condition has filed an appeal to have Perez’s medical records disclosed, as he feels that Perez had held back critical medical information before the surgery. Dr. Jacob Freiman says that, “the medical problems Perez experienced after the surgery, are similar to ones she experienced during child birth.”
