Today, we have the strangest tale so far into 2019. A tale about a millionaire father trying to find a good husband for his daughter by setting up a contest with a ton of bonus prizes apart from marrying his daughter.

1Crazy start to 2019

This year started off crazy with one of the weirdest contest or tournaments we’re ever seen. We’ve all seen an episode of ‘The Bachelor’ or ‘The Bachelorette’. These shows are scripted in an entertaining way where one single person dates a few people of the opposite sex till they find their perfect match. This is made and sold as reality television but we all know it is scripted.

2This story isn’t scripted

Well, forget about those scripted shows, we have one real-life contest that isn’t scripted. We’d like you to meet Mr. Arnon Rodthong; he is a Thai millionaire who recently made waves on social media for his attempt to find a good husband for his daughter. Now, finding a good husband for your daughter is every parent’s wish but, how Rodthong approached this is way different from the usual approach.

3Rodthong’s wish

Mr. Rodthong simply wanted one thing, a suitable groom for his daughter. Naturally, like any parent, he will have some preferences for his future son-in-law? Not that much actually. Arnon said all he wanted for his daughter is a man who will be willing to work hard to make her happy.

4The husband should be?

Mr. Rodthong publically stated that he did not care about nationality. He did not care if the boy was highly educated or had a bachelor’s, or master’s or philosopher’s degree. All Mr. Rodthong wanted for his daughter was a diligent man who had a hard-working attitude and would do anything to make and keep his daughter happy.

5Thai culture

In many parts of Thailand, it is the traditional custom that the man pays a dowry for the girl he wishes to marry. But, in Mr. Rodthong’s case, he will do the opposite as he has stated that he would waive this ‘fee’. It is also a tradition that the sons inherit the father’s company or estate. Even though Mr. Rodthong has two sons, he is willing to put his entire company in the hands of his son-in-law.
