When asked why he spent so much money on something like this he gave a very simple answer. He said that he did not do it for publicity and that he loved gold. He also added that he saw on TV a man using a silver mask which inspired him to make a gold one.

According to Kurhade, he saw a clip of a man from Kolhapur, India wearing a silver mask. This made him wonder if he could combine his love for gold with protection from COVID-19. He said that after viewing the clip he spoke to his jeweler and ordered a gold mask.
