Man Discovers That His Family Heirloom Is A Giant Rare Pearl Worth Millions
6It was passed down to Abraham
In 2016, Abraham’s aunt starting offloading her estate and his family staked claims on her house as well as her possessions. The pearl was passed down to him and he kept it in a safety deposit box. He had doubts about the material and wanted it to be evaluated by geological specialists.
7It was proven to be a pearl
When the rock was evaluated Abraham was left speechless upon hearing that this was one of the rarest and most stunning treasures in North America. Not only that but he was also informed that it was also around four times the size of the Lao-Tzu pearl which held the spot as the world’s largest pearl.
8A treasure worth millions
Naturally, after finding out that what he thought was just a rock was actually a rare gigantic pearl, Abraham wanted to know how much it was worth. After all the inspection and data collection was done to see just how old the pearl was, the price was estimated between $60 to $90 million!
9What type of pearl is it?
This isn’t your average pearl but in fact, it is a blister pearl and that too the largest known blister pearl in the world. There is only one difference between conventional pearls and blister pearl and that is that blister pearls grow attached to the inside surface of a shell. All this information was gathered by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
10Putting it on display
Abraham got a 22-karat gold leaf octopus constructed to be paired with the pearl to be put on display by New York-based sculptor Bethany Krull. The pearl along with the octopus looks amazing and is something to be seen. It is an amazing sight and a good homage to its origin in the Philippine Sea.
