Lost Purse Found In School Acts As A Time Capsule To The 1950s
We’ve read about time capsules and schools many times before. But, we’ve never come across a story this strange. What happens when the staff of a school finds a small red purse that was lost 60 years ago? This could be the start of a fantasy movie or a horror one. But when this happened at North Canton Middle school, the staff was surprised to see what was inside.
Normally you’d think the contents of a purse buried away for over 60 years would be destroyed but not this one. Not only were the contents safe but in pristine order.
1Schools and time capsules
There is something that many schools in America do and that is to create a time capsule. They ask their students to write letters for the next batch of students and place those letters and memorabilia into a secure airtight container which is then buried in the school’s campus. Around 10 to 20 years later the capsule is opened and the letters are read.
2What happens when you find a time capsule?
The story we’re talking about took place in the North Canton Middle school where the staff came across a strange artifact. This was a red purse that was crammed into the corner of a wall next to the lockers. The purse was covered in dust and spider webs and hid a lovely secret inside.
3Who did it belong to?
The purse had no markings on it and had to be opened. Once opened it was discovered that the purse belonged to Patti Rumfola who was a 1960 Hoover graduate. Once this information was discovered her family was contacted to tell them about the find. Unfortunately, she had passed away.
4The family gathered to open it
Patti had five children and all of them gathered to take a look at their mother’s purse. The school was kind enough not to investigate too much into the contents of the purse before handing it over to the family. The family opened the purse in private and went through the contents in what we think was quite an emotional reunion.
5They kept some memorabilia
The family opened the purse in the privacy of their own home and discovered it had become like a time capsule taking them back to the time their mother was in school. They found many items in the purse and the children kept wheat pennies as tokens to remember their mother by.
