It is being said that childhood is the best part of lives because there is no tension in that phase of life but as we grow up, we get to face various problems in our life however whatever the situation may be, our parents are always standing behind us. In fact, even when we get busy in our jobs and shift to different cities our parents are still ready to help us if we need their help. Our busy schedules don’t leave us with much time to visit our parents for spending good time with them and this is when, our parents start feeling lonely which is really harmful for them.

It has been found after conducting some studies that old people who get to spend good amount of quality time with their younger family members live longer than those who are not properly attended by the youngsters of their family. In simple words, loneliness has been termed has two times more harmful than obesity.

A research was conducted at the University of California, San Francisco to study the effect of loneliness on the old age people. A group of 1600 people with an average age of 71-yrs participated in this study and the researchers observed that the loneliness had an adverse effect on the older people.

3The findings

It was found that out of 1600 participants, 23 percent lost their lives within the six years and these were the ones who had no one to give company. While on the other hand, those 14 percent of the participants who had other people to spend time with live longer than those who had no one to give company.

The role of younger family members is very important in this scenario as the study has revealed that those mothers and elders of the family live longer who have young members to give company. In fact, the increase in mortality rates due to loneliness is equivalent to the mortality rate which is the result of smoking.
