Yes, the answer of all our collective wondering whether Grylls actually spends nights out in the dark and dangerous wilderness in the freezing temperature or rain and storm in a jungle for real as they show in the series? Well the answer is no! When the truth came out in 2008 that he stays in hotels, he actually apologised the audience for misleading them. The shoots are usually over 6 days and after an episode of a night shoot the rest of the nights are spent in base camp lodges, hotels, and proper shelters from the elements.

2The Crew Builds His Equipment

In one of the episodes he actually builds up a complete Polynesian raft by himself! The footage makes it believable that he is actually making it with simple bamboos and palm leaves, but in reality, the survival consultant Mark Weinart and the crew puts the raft together then “dissembled” it so that Bear could cleverly “build his raft in front of the camera seamlessly. In fact, Mark went on to say that if people really believe all they see on TV they are Naïve!

3He Works With a Stunt Tester

Bear does some really dangerous and extreme spur of the moment stunts like eating bugs or swimming in frozen lakes etc which illustrates the potential survival scenarios one might face in the wild. But all these stunts are well planned and carefully executed. Grylls has a stunt tester Megan Hines which actually does all these death defying stunts before hand to test the safety and the danger levels for Bear to shoot them. In fact, she is known as the woman who keeps him alive.I really wonder if he should have been the star of the show don’t you agree?

4He Uses Bogus Survival Skills

Real life survivalists like Les Stroud has actually questioned his tips of survival which he gives on the show. According to him the gimmicks and the so-called survival tricks are bogus in real life crisis and can actually make situation worse for the victim. Most of the stunts are purely for entertainment factors decided by the producers of the show. No doubt he is great athlete and has bought nature as an interest to the young generation but by no means is he a real instructor to be emulated.
