HBO’s TV show Game of Thrones has captivated the minds and souls of TV viewers all around the world with its gritty and in your face adaptation of George RR Martin’s book series ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’. The show has been greatly appreciated by the critics and public both; thanks to the use of extreme gore and nudity in its episodes.
It has also been lauded for some wonderful pieces of acting work done by the cast members who portrayed different characters on the show, each of them making a place in the heart of the viewers and they have come to be known by the name of their characters rather than their own names.

1 Richard Madden didn’t know about the Red wedding
Richard Madden played the role of Robb Stark who is the eldest son of the commander of Winterfell Ned Stark on Game of Thrones. Robb Stark becomes the commander of Winterfell and head of his family after his father was killed in the first season of the show.
Even Robb Stark was killed along with his wife and mother in one of the most intense sequences on the show, known as the ‘Red Wedding’, where he, his wife and mother are betrayed and stabbed to death. Interestingly, Richard Madden hadn’t read the books and didn’t know that his character died. He only found out after he accidently googled about his character.
2 Brienne of Tarth is unaware of her birthday
6 ft 3 inches tall Gwendoline Christie plays the warrior Brienne of Tarth on the show, who is an ally of the Starks of Winterfell. Christie who was born in Sussex, England actually doesn’t know the year in which she was born in. She herself admitted in an interview that no one knows how old she is, not even her mother, as no one has kept any track of the year she was born in.
3 Sorry folks, no more nude scenes for Daenerys/ Khaleesi
Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen was one of the stand out actresses in the first season of the show and as the story has unfolded, has become one of the most important characters of the show. She had done lots of nude scenes in the first three seasons of the show. But now has a clause in her contract, that she doesn’t have to do any more nude scenes or even appear topless again ever on the show.
4 Cersei and Bronn have a real life feud
Yes you read it correctly. Lena Headey who plays Cersei Lannister and Jerome Flynn who plays Bronn, have a real life feud going on between them. The hatred between them is so intense that the writers were instructed to never put the two in same scene against each other. Apparently both of them used to date each other back in the day and it didn’t end so well.
5 Theon Greyjoy is the subject of popular Lily Allen song ‘Alfie’
Theon Greyjoy or Reek is a character played by Alfie Allen on the show and an interesting fact about Alfie Allen is that he is the brother of pop singer Lily Allen, who has also composed a song named ‘Alfie’ referencing his life in the song.
6 Sansa Stark is kind hearted in real life
Sophie Turner who plays Sansa Stark on the show is actually a kind hearted person in real life. Her character had a dire wolf named Lady in the show, which was killed in the first season. The dog Zunni, who played the direwolf Lady on the show, was adopted by Sophie Turner after her work on the show was over.
7 The mountain is actually one of the strongest men on Earth
Hafthór Júlíus Björnsson plays ‘the mountain’ on the show and is known for crushing Oberyn’s skull in a fight on the show. In real life, Hafthór participates in strong man competitions all over the world. Standing at an imposing 6 ft 9 in, Hafthór came at the third place in World’s Strongest Man competition in 2014.
8 Cast has many adult film actresses
With all the nudity in the Game of Thrones, most of those scenes are performed by professional adult film stars who are hired for the specific purpose of staying naked on screen. One of the strongest supporting characters in the show Shae was played by former German porn star Sibel Kekilli.
9 Night’s King killed Bruce Wayne’s parents
The actor who plays Night’s King on the show, Richard Blake was the same actor who played Joe Chill in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins. Joe Chill is the thug who kills Bruce Wayne’s parents during a mugging, which leads to Bruce Wayne becoming the Batman.
10 Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s first ever American role was in Black Hawk Down
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is a fine Danish actor known for his various TV and big screen movies. He plays the popular Jamie Lannister, who is the twin of Cersei Lannister, the former queen and her lover as well. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau made his Hollywood debut with the 2001 battle movie ‘Black Hawk Down.’ The movie was also the debut film for actors such as Tom Hardy, Ty Burrell and Orlando Bloom in American films.
11 Catelyn Stark was in Harry Potter
Catelyn Stark, who was the queen of Winterfell and wife of slain Ned Stark and who was killed in the aforementioned Red Wedding is played by talented and acclaimed British actress Michelle Fairley. Fairley is also seen in the Harry Potter film- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-Part 1, as the mother of Hermoine Granger.
