Elon Musk Successfully Launches Worlds Heaviest Rocket Carrying Into Space His Red Tesla Car

Elon Musk has done it again. The US Billionaire is ecstatic over the successful launch of his latest rocket, The Falcon heavy from Kennedy Space centre in Florida. Falcon Heavy, is the most powerful rocket since the space shuttle system and was expected to achieve a 50-50 success rate but the rocket instead launched clear off the pad without any glitches soaring into the atmosphere high over the Atlantic Ocean.

Musk was reported to have had doubts over the launch saying “I had this image of just a giant explosion on the pad, a wheel bouncing down the road. But fortunately that’s not what happened,” The entrepreneur has much to rejoice.

2Touted as a risky test flight before lift off

The CEO of SpaceX had earlier mentioned how there was serious challenges when planning to develop the rocket which was earlier perceived to have only a 50% success rate of lift off.

The Falcon Heavy is the most capable launch vehicle and heavier than its predecessors possessing the ability to deliver a payload of 64 tones into low earth orbit. This is the same as taking 5 double decker buses to space.

3Experimental project with a weird payload

Believe it or not, but this was just an experimental rocket which was double that of Musk’s next craft the Delta IV heavy which will be the world’s most powerful rocket. The payload for this experimental mission was none other than Musk’ cherry red Tesla sports car.

In the driver’s seat he strapped a mannequin dressed in a space suit and set the radio to play on a loop. The song he chose was one by David Bowie.

4A weird sight of a red tesla orbiting mars

The red tesla will be a weird sight for astronauts in space as it was sent into an elliptical orbit around the sun. The orbit reaches as far as planet mars.

5Three rockets strapped together

The Falcon heavy consists of three rockets strapped together. It is usual for SpaceX missions to feature this type of launch where two other rockets are strapped to the main one. All three boost stages return to earth.

6One gets destroyed

Two of the rockets touched down safely in their touchdown zones on the Florida coast simultaneously while the third overshot its mark which was a drone ship at sea. The booster unable to slow down crashed into the water at 500 kmph and was destroyed.

Commenting on fantastic landing of the two other boosters, Elon Musk said “That was epic, that’s probably the most exciting thing I’ve ever seen, literally.”

7Falcon Heavy just misses Planned Mars Orbit

By the time the third booster had crashed; Falcon Heavy was way into space heading on its trajectory to its Mars orbit. The final stage would require a thrust ignition after a long cruise phase and would happen six hours after launch so it is most probably passed that by now.

However, the mission wasn’t an entire success because the Falcon Heavy rocket overshot its planned orbit around Mars and zoomed instead through space towards the Asteroid belt.

8Watched by hundreds of spectators

Hundreds of spectators gathered on coca beach to watch the amazing launch. Many were even awed at what Musk sent up into space. One can’t quite imagine the scene of a red tesla orbiting mars.

9Innumerous funnies on twitter

The event has also received its fair share of parodies and jokes on the internet and twitter where one by the name #Jamie Alter tweeted

“There are unconfirmed reports that following the successful launching of a car and mannequin into outer space, McDonalds is considering firing up Ronald McDonald on a cycle to scope out the potential of a chain of drive-throughs”

#Niki Flores tweeted “wow wow wow wow @elonmusk what a beautiful show. I had chills and tears when the boosters landed. Congratulations to the only man cool enough to put a Tesla Roadster in space to a Bowie tune”

11A new era of space exploration and satellite launches

Jokes aside, Musk has opened up a new era of space exploration with such a large and heavy rocket befitting its name of Falcon Heavy. It also means new possibilities for the ambitious plans of Elon Musk and his Space X Company and means.

12Larger satellites for intelligence and the military can be delivered into space

With the success of the Falcon heavy, there will be a lot more possibilities for satellite launches and heavier payloads into Space.

• Possibility of Musk plan to send a constellation of thousands of spacecraft to deliver broadband across the globe.

• Larger robots to be sent to the surface of mars, Jupiter and the moon
• Will carry Hubble type space telescopes
• Low cost

13Musk says that this will be a game changer for space exploration where one can reuse boosters

“It’ll be like trying to sell an aircraft where one aircraft company has a reusable aircraft and all the other companies had aircraft that were single-use where you would parachute out at your destination and the plane would crash-land randomly somewhere. Crazy as that sounds – that’s how the rocket business works.”
