Doctors Had Asked Them To Abort The ‘Deformed Baby,’ But They Didn’t – This Is How He Looks Today
When people become parents for the first time, the level of their excitement equals the level of their anxiety. Everybody hopes for the best and pray to have a healthy and a happy baby. But this couple from Nebraska found something unusual when the mother had her ultrasound at 24-weeks. What followed was a journey of a couple who decided to not abort their child, when the doctors gave them the option to. Take a look at how baby Brody came into this world and changed the life of his parents.
1The shocking news
It is hard for any mother to come to terms with the fact that her baby will have deformities when he enters the world. When Sara Heller went for her ultrasound at 24 weeks, she along with her partner Chris Eidam found that Brody had a bilateral cleft lip and palate. The doctors had asked them whether they wanted to keep the baby. And even though they were stunned by the news, they decided to continue with the pregnancy. Sara wanted this so that she could change the way people see babies with cleft lips and palates.
2What are cleft lips and palates?
The problem of cleft lips and palates arise when tissues don’t fuse properly during pregnancy. Due to this, the mouth or lips and the palates inside the mouth do not form completely. Children who are born with cleft lips and palates have to go through multiple surgeries and therapy treatments so that they learn how to eat and talk properly. Each year around 2,650 children are born with a cleft palate in the USA.
