The Boy Born Without Eyes Is Destroying The Social Stigma Regarding Disabilities And Inspiring Everyone
We are so busy focusing on the looks, appearance and other external factors of each other’s personality that we tend to forget that every person in this world is unique and there should be no comparison amongst us. We should also remember that as every human being has some qualities which make him different from other people, in the same manner, some people lack in basic features which make them special and not disabled. This does not mean that they are inferior to others; in fact, they are just special with little difference.
We are going to share a story of a six-year-old boy who may have born with physical flaws but he is an inspiration for many of us.
1Meet Christian Buchanan
Christian is a six-year-old boy who belongs from Woodbury, Tennessee and he is a little different from all other ordinary human beings. What makes him different from all other ordinary human beings is not his disease from which he is suffering since birth but his attitude of living a meaningful life filled with joy and enthusiasm.
2The disease he is suffering from
Christian is suffering from a rare disease known as Tessier facial cleft with microphthalmia which is caused because of a syndrome known as amniotic banding. As per medical experts, the amniotic banding syndrome (ABS) takes place when the blood flow in an unborn baby is stopped as the baby gets entangled in a fibrous string like tissue.
3Some more about the disease
As per a research, out of 1200 live births, 1 is affected by amniotic banding syndrome and out of 10,000 miscarriages, 178 take place because of this disease. If a limb is wrapped by the bands, it get amputated in the womb and if the face is wrapped by the band, the clefts are caused.
4You should know this also about the disease
Amniotic banding syndrome doesn’t occur because of the genes or any of the actions of mother, it happens randomly. The bands can be removed from the babies in the womb through surgery. Nearly 31.5 percent clubfoots happen because of ABS and when umbilical cord gets wrapped by the band, miscarriages take place.
5The effects of the disease
Due to this disease, Christian was born with large gaps on his face because of which he has been using a tube for the feeding purpose since he was 4-yrs of age. Christian has undergone seven surgeries for the purpose of his facial reconstruction. How rare this disease is, can be understood by the fact that there are only 60 cases of this disease in the world including Christian.
