Bottled water may contain up to 24000 harmful chemicals
Water is perhaps the most important element on earth given by nature for the survival of human kind. It is required in everything from washing, drinking, cooking to irrigation. It is also the most important life support system for us, as along with the oxygen that we breathe; water is required for us to function in a healthy way. People who like pure water tend to use something similar to a water softener resin replacement which people can learn about at rezpectourwater.com if they are interested.
But the pollution is harming the resources of water and tap water is no longer a safe option for drinking water. The other option to tap water is the bottled water, which is supposed to be safe as it is treated for harmful substances before being bottled.
But a research conducted by German scientists has found 24,520 suspect chemicals in 18 different bottled water brands. The most harmful of all chemicals that has been found in the bottled water is the Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) which severely affect reproduction and development of human body.
Let’s take a more insight look at the findings of the study from Martin Wagner and Jorg Oehlmann of the Goethe University Frankfurt, Frankfurt am Main, and Michael Schlusener and Thomas Ternes of the German Federal Institute of Hydrology.
1 What are Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs)?
Endocrine disrupting chemicals are the chemicals that mess with the reproductive system of human beings. They can severely hamper reproductive cycles of humans and or disrupt the development of already developing fetus.
2 What does the study says?
An increasing number of in vitro studies report the presence of EDCs in bottled water. With previous studies focusing on estrogenicity, the present work provides evidence for an additional contamination with steroid receptor antagonists. We detected antiestrogens and antiandrogens in the majority of analyzed bottled water products.
Moreover, the antagonist activity was very potent. An equivalent of 3.75 ml bottled water inhibited estrogen and androgen receptor by up to 60 and 90 percent. Bottled water from six different countries has been found to contain estrogenic, antiestrogenic, as well as androgenic, progestagenic, and glucocorticoid-like chemicals. This demonstrates that a popular beverage is contaminated with diverse-acting EDCs
What can you do to prevent such cases of harmful chemical consumption, when the supposedly safe bottled water is the one really harming you?
3 Don’t drink bottled water
Avoid drinking bottled water. Instead boil and sterilise the tap water and carry it with you. It is very simple to make the tap water drinkable with a little effort.
4 Use high quality water filter systems
Try using high quality water filter systems such as reverse osmosis systems. These systems are very effective in filtering harmful chemicals from the water like chlorine and fluoride, making it safe for consumption in large quantities.
5 Be careful while buying bottled water
One can experience the difference of taste in bottled water, which is contaminated from the plastic by which the bottle is made. If such bottle stays in the sun for a long period of time, the pollutants gets absorbed the water.
