Australian Teen Invents Biodegradable Plastic Made From Prawn Shells

While the human race is dealing with the current pandemic the world is dealing with another crisis that was brought on by humans, plastic pollution. The use of plastic has created giant landmasses filled with unusable plastic materials which have even found a home in the oceans. This plastic pollution is bad not just for the environment and animals but also for us, the human race.

Luckily for us, there are many young people who are trying to solve this issue with great success.

1A global crisis

The ever-growing pillars of plastic that occupy massive landfills and which are swirling in large patches in oceans across the globe are an alarming environmental crisis. This is something that we cannot blame on anyone or anything other than man. We invented plastic for our benefit and now it is killing the planet.

2It will never stop

The only reason plastic is killing our planet is because it is a very versatile material. Look around the room you are in right now and you will see over half the items present have plastic in them. Plastic materials can be molded and are strong but are not hard to bend.

3Plastic is non-biodegradable

The only reason plastic is such an issue and plastic materials cause pollution is because it is a non-biodegradable material. This means that a plastic object could be thrown out and it will remain intact for hundreds of years. This is what causes plastic pollution that is now a global issue.

4Someone had an idea

While looking at prawns an Australian teen had an idea. Prawn shells look and feel like they are made from plastic so why not use that composition to make a plastic-like material that will decompose with time. This was a ‘Eureka’ like moment that changed this person’s life.
