Astrobiologist Shows What Happens When You Try to Cook in Antarctica at -94ºF (-70ºC)
To say life here is hard is an understatement. The temperatures keep dropping under what humans can easily withstand and there aren’t that many signs of life or vegetation around. Add that to the lack of oxygen and the desert like landscape which makes the people living there feel like they’re on a different planet and not earth.
7The Concordia Station
The station we’ll be talking about is the Concordia Station. Even though Antarctica has some of the worst living conditions known to man, the Concordia Station is a hotspot for scientists. Scientists from different fields like human physiology, astronomy, glaciology, geophysics, and atmospheric sciences are present here.
The hero of today’s story is Cyprien Verseux. He is a glaciologist and astrobiologist, currently working at the Concordia Station. He holds a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology and loves blogging about his life. His pictures of preparing food in freezing temperatures went viral on social media.
9Things freeze fast
As the pictures prove, things freeze faster here than anywhere else on the planet. Cyprien loves blogging about his life as there are many people who love reading about it. The amount of time it takes for things to freeze here is one of the most amusing aspects of Cyprien’s blog.
Just look at these pictures. It looks like it takes just a few seconds for liquids to freeze. Those are eggs being broken into pans but frozen in mid-air. The frozen insides of the eggs provide a stand for the shell and it looks like art. These are the pictures Cyprien’s fans love to see.
