Amazing!! This woman ran a marathon while on her period to prove a point
Having periods is a completely normal biological process that every female form ages of 12 to 55 goes through. Every month for 5-6 days, female bleed through their private parts as a sign of healthy working of the body functions.
The menstrual cycle occurs due to the rise and fall of hormones. This cycle results in the thickening of the lining of the uterus and production of an egg which is required for pregnancy. If pregnancy does not occur, the lining is released in what is known as menstruation.
The women all over the world face shaming for having their periods. It is wrong but there is a stigma attached to menstruation everywhere in the world, even in the so called developed countries. But Kiran Gandhi wanted to change people’s view on periods; hence she did something out of ordinary.
1 Who is Kiran Gandhi?

2 Her courageous display of woman power
Kiran Gandhi and her family were in London to participate in the London Marathon. She had planned and trained for the marathon for a year.
But the day before the marathon, she experienced her periods. Now she had to make the decision to either run the marathon while wearing a tampon or using a pad; or simply run the marathon without any aid to stop her blood flow.
She chose the latter and decided to run the marathon without using a tampon or a pad. Kiran, who ran with her two best friends to raise £3,800 ($6,000) for Breast Cancer Care. ‘I ran with blood dripping down my legs for sisters who don’t have access to tampons and sisters who, despite cramping and pain, hide it away and pretend like it doesn’t exist.
‘I ran to say, it does exist, and we overcome it every day. The marathon was radical and absurd and bloody in ways I couldn’t have imagined until the day of the race.’
3 On the day of the marathon
Kiran Gandhi proudly ran the whole 26 miles of London Marathon with blood running down her private parts and staining her running track pants.
She said that she decided to run the marathon in order to support and take a stand for all the women around the world who do not have access to menstruation products and have to face the stigma of getting periods being a wrong thing.
She says that both men and women have been socially trained to see periods as untouchables. She said that,” By making it difficult to speak about, we don’t have language to express pain in the workplace, and we don’t acknowledge differences between women and men that must be recognized and established as acceptable norms. Because it is all kept quiet, women are socialized not to complain or talk about their own bodily functions, since no one can see it happening.”
