According To The Scientists, Your Meanest Friend Cares The Most About You
6The basic hypothesis
The basic hypothesis of the research was to persuade the contestants to feel as if they are in another person’s situation and make them realize how they would have reacted in such situation. It is always difficult to understand the position of another person until and unless we try to put ourselves in that person’s place.
7The assumption of scientists
The basic assumption that the scientists had while doing the research was that the contestants will be choosing the most pessimistic experience so that the person can learn a good lesson which will help him in making his future bright. The researchers assumed that the person will think from the perspective of helping the other person.
8Testing the hypothesis
140 adults took part in this lab study in which they had to play a computer game with a partner who was kept anonymous and was named as Player A. The contestants were named as Player B but the reality, from which these contestants were totally unaware of, was the fact that the Player A didn’t even existed.
9Just before the game started:
Just as the game was about to start, all the players received a note which was sent by the player telling them that he is heartbroken because he has recently broken up with his partner. The contestants were asked to try to feel the same way as A would have been feeling and consider him as a leading man or protagonist.
10Different feelings for player A
While the players were playing the game, they were asked to have different feelings for player A. While some members were asked to have sympathy with the player A, some people were asked not to be emotional for the player A. After that the big group of 140 people was divided into two teams.
