1 Who is Caitlyn Jenner?
Caitlyn Jenner, who was formerly known as Bruce Jenner is a retired American athlete, who won the gold medal in Men’s decathlon event at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games. Caitlyn Jenner banked upon her fame as an American hero by featuring in movies such as Can’t Stop the Music (1980) and on the police based TV series Chips. 4 ESPN’s Arthur Ashe Courage Award announcement
ESPN announced that the Arthur Ashe Courage Award would be given to Caitlyn Jenner. Jenner was present at the award presentation and received the award along with a brilliant and heart touching speech.
5 Criticism of the speech on social media
As soon as the announcement was made in the name of Jenner, the social media was abuzz with criticism. People criticized the decision of giving a prestigious award to someone who in their eyes didn’t deserve it.
Some called for former basketball ball player Lauren Hill to be awarded. She died last of cancer earlier this year. Majority of the people wanted members of the US military to be awarded the Courage award.
6 US Soldier Joey Vicente’s amazing reply
A US soldier named Joey Vincete seemed to have had enough of the negative posts about the Courage award and took to Facebook to send a message to all the people criticising ESPN and Caitlyn Jenner.
“Your definition of what or who a hero can or cannot be is irrelevant,” he wrote. “What if I told you that her speech last night saved even one human being from attempting to take their life. I’d call that a victory on any scale.” Vincente posted on Facebook.
Joey Vincente said that he posted the post on Facebook among his friends only, which went viral in time. The reason he gave behind posting such a post was that he wanted people to be more careful and respectful on social media.
