This 9/11 video footage will send chills down your spine
No one can forget the date of September 11, 2001. The United States of America was shook to its core as it witnessed the worst ever terrorist attacks on its land. The attacks were carried out by the terrorist group Al-Qaeda and remain one of the most horrific events to happen in recent history.
The images and videos shot by multiple news agencies and tourists still remain evidence of the horrific events that took place on that day. But a new video shot by a complete novice student has surfaced, showing the never before seen footage of the collapse of the twin towers.
1 World Trade Center buildings
The World Trade Center buildings were situated in the lower Manhattan area of the New York City and were famously known as the “Twin towers.” They were opened for public on April 4, 1973. They were destroyed in the September 11 Al-Qaeda terrorist attacks, when two passenger aircrafts were crashed by hijackers into both of the 110 storey towers.
The collapse of the twin towers took lives of 2,606 people in the buildings and in the nearby vicinity during the collapse. This led to the United States declaring war on global terrorism and getting their revenge by killing the head of Al-Qaeda Osama Bin Laden.
A new World Trade Center is in being constructed in the same place where the original buildings stood. This will be the tallest building in the USA.
9/11 or the September 2001 attacks are something that shook not only the USA, but the whole world, as it was the first organized terrorist attacks on the powerful United States of America. Four passenger aircrafts were hijacked by 19 Al-Qaeda terrorists. Two of the planes- American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, were flown directly into the north and south towers respectively of the world famous World Trade Center buildings in New York City. These crashes caused both the towers to crash to the ground.
One of the other two planes, American Airlines Flight 77 was crashed into the Pentagon or the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense. The fourth plane American Airlines Flight 93 was headed to Washington DC, but when the passengers tried to overpower the hijackers, it crashed into a field. The attacks took lives of 2,996 people and caused damage worth $10 billion.
3 The student who shot the video
A video which has now surfaced was shot privately by a then New York University student from the dormitory she lived in during that period of time. The video has been released on the online forum Reddit, months before the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.
The video was taken by then student of NYU, Caroline Dries. She currently works as a writer and producer and has been part of TV shows like Smallville, Melrose Place and The Vampire Diaries. She was awoken by the sound of what seemed like an explosion on that fateful day in morning at 8.46 am. She quickly grabbed her camera and started filming from her room on the 32nd floor at 200 Water Street and was shocked to see smoke coming out the North tower of the World Trade center.
The video also recorded the conversation that took place between the confused roommates and even the phone call her roommate Megan made to her mother.
4 The new video footage
You can hear in the video that the two girls can be heard frantically discussing what might have happened. You can also hear her roommate calling her mother and explaining to her what might have happened amidst the chaos.
The two girls continued filming and it was only when the South Tower was attacked, they realized that they were filming a terrorist attack. They had to evacuate the building following the security protocol. But later went back to their room in the dormitory to witness the collapse of the south tower.
Dries says, “I just remember feeling, ‘I don’t know what to do.’ That feeling of being so vulnerable was so overwhelming; and so, we ran out of the apartment, took the elevator down to the street, and it was just kind of pandemonium with no one knowing what [was] happening.”
The video has gone viral on the internet since its release.
