Read the incredible story of a 41 days old baby who made his parents proud in the short time
Martin Luther King said “It does not matter how long you live, but how well you do it.” His words couldn’t be truer for our hero of this story. He lived for just 41 days, but has made his parents proud than what many people do in their lifetime. Read on to find out what he did.
1 The 41 day old wonder boy
Theo Omondi suffered from a bout of sudden illness, which took his life after just 41 days on this planet. The parents of the baby were asked about donating his organs and they were more than happy to donate his organs so that some other baby could have a better and longer life than their son had. They said: “We believe he would have wanted to help others if he had been able to grow up and make the decision himself.” Theo saved the life of 5 month old Imogen Bolton by giving her his lungs. Imogen was born healthy, but was later diagnosed with respiratory infection and then with ACD and was put on transplant list. Theo was a match for Imogen and just a week later, the surgery was scheduled.
2 What he did?
Imogen Bolton suffered from Alveolar Capillary Dysplasia (ACD), which is a rare illness and it severely affects the lungs of babies and hinders their full development. Imogen became the youngest recipient of a double lung transplant at the London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital in a seven hour marathon surgery. Imogen’s surgery was a success and it made 41 day old Theo the youngest organ donor in history of UK and his parents said they couldn’t be more proud of their son and said that the lung transplant was a once in lifetime chance of a young life helping another young life in need. Theo’s kidney’s were transplanted into another baby and Theo’s parents said that their son will live through these two kids and Imogen’s parents said that every birthday Imogen celebrates, will also be a celebration Theo’s birth. They said: ‘There are no words to express how grateful we are to Theo’s family for the amazing decision they made, which has saved our beautiful Imogen’s life.”
