Our mother earth is really a wonder ball of sorts. We may be living on this earth, but most of us are just not aware of some of the wonderful facts about earth. 1 A teaspoonful of soil has more living organisms than people on earth
In every patch of soil you can easily see entire eco systems comprised of several millions of living creatures that interact as well. There are more creatures in a teaspoon of high quality soil than there are number of people living on planet Earth. The variety of living beings is amazing and this brings in a variety of nutrients within the soil.

2 Before the occurrence of trees, earth had giant mushrooms
Around 350 to 420 million years ago, when plant life started to sprinkle from the land and the tallest trees only raised to a few feet high, large living spires grew from the ground. According to the New Scientist magazine, the organism had trunks that used to be 24 feet (8 meters) high and 3 feet (1 meter) wide.

3 The Earth’s core is as hot as the sun’s surface
A current study in Science shows that the temperature of our planet’s core is near around 6,000 degrees Kelvin, which is much higher than the previous findings that were closer to 5,000 degrees Kelvin. This unintelligible temperature is the same as the surface of the sun.

4 As per WWF, Earth has lost 40% of its wildlife in the past 40 years
According to the World Wildlife Fund for Nature and Zoological Society of London, the planet Earth has now come to have only about 50 per cent of the original amount of wildlife than was present four decades back. All land, river and sea creatures are being killed off in unmanageable proportions.

5 Over 1 million man-made objects are revolving around planet Earth
As per the estimates 6,000 satellites that have been launched and roughly 3,600 of them are presently working and orbiting the planet. Most of the man made objects floating around Earth are space/orbital debris, a collection of dysfunctional satellites, rocket pieces, disintegrated fragments and so on.

6 Earth’s core has enough gold to coat its entire surface to a depth of 1.5 feet
Another among the mind boggling facts about earth is that billions of years ago, 99% of all of the Earth’s gold had fallen to the center of the planet. The amount of gold in the Earth’s core can coat the surface of the planet in a thick layer of gold 1.5 feet (0.4572 meters)!! Wow! Imagine our planet in golden hue…pure bliss!

7 Amazon rain forest produces 20% of the earth’s oxygen
South America is 40% covered by the Amazon River basin. The river basin expands across nine countries and contains the largest cover of rain forest in the entire world. This is known as the Amazon Rain forest and is responsible for the production of 20% of oxygen that the people of the world breathe in.

8 There are five areas on earth where it is common for people to live for 100 years
Blue Zones are those demographic and geographic regions of the planet Earth where people live considerably longer lives than others. They are- Sardinia, Italy; Nicoya Peninsula, Okinawa, Japan Costa Rica;Icaria, Greece and Loma Linda, California.
The idea spawned from the demographic work done by Gianni Pes and Michel Poulain, who showed that Sardinia’s Nuoro province was one of the blue zones and this region had the highest concentration of male centenarians.

9 We all are revolving around the sun almost at a mean velocity of 66,600 mph
If the Earth had a space station and if we were its passengers, we’d be moving on a ship that would be travelling almost at a mean velocity of 66,600 mph. The ship would also be revolving at 1,000 miles-per-hour, a speed that would cause the ship to swell outward.

10 The larger parts of the Canada have lesser gravity than the rest of the earth
This is a fact which was discovered in 1960. Usually there is not major adjustment that needs to be done;it’s just that in certain parts of Canada a person weighing 150 pounds (68 kilograms) could find themselves to be 1/10th of an ounce lighter.
