You must ask your doctor to perform these 5 medical tests next time
3 Hepatitis C test
If you were born in between 1945 and 1965, then you must get a hepatitis C test done. This is because the time period mentioned is known as the baby boomer generation, which coincided with use of recreational drugs and unprotected reproductive activities.
This was a time when disposable syringes were not invented yet and same needle was used for multiple blood transfusions and maybe even drug use. If it is left unnoticed, hep C can destroy a person’s liver, obstructing the body’s ability to filter the blood properly. It can also cause cirrhosis of liver and even cancer. Thanks to medical advancements, there are much better treatments available now than say 50 years back.
4 Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH)
This disease affects women who are over 60-years of age. This is because at this age, women are prone to hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid gland.
If you feel fatigued, tired, sensitive to cold, and have irregular bowel movements, dry skin and weight gain, you should ask your doctor to perform this test immediately. If you suffer from hyperthyroidism or over active thyroid, you might experience symptoms like rapid heart rate, nervousness, tremors and sweating.
5 Vitamin D
Around 75% of adults and teens in America are deficient in Vitamin D or the sunshine vitamin. Vitamin D is required to keep your bones strong, muscles in perfect conditions and it also helps in lowering the risk of cancer, heart disease and makes the immune system strong.
Ask the doctor to perform a 25-hydroxy vitamin D test to see the level of vitamin D in your blood. The recommended level by the doctors is 20 and 40 nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml).
With these 5 medical tests, you should not skip other tests like blood pressure, cholesterol test, colonoscopy, mammogram (for ladies), Pap smear test (again for the ladies) which can test for diseases like breast cancer, heart disease, blood pressure levels amongst other ones.
