When Is It Safe to Socialize Again Since I’m Vaccinated?
When can people start socializing like normal again?
This is the biggest question on everyone’s mind- when will it be safe to start interacting with others as people did before the COVID-19 pandemic. But, for things to go back to how it was during pre-COVID-19 times, a herd immunity needs to be reached. This is basically a point where people can’t contract the virus and develop COVID-19 easily.
Dr. Woods says “We don’t yet know what percent of the population needs to be vaccinated to attain herd immunity. Right now, we think it is a minimum of 70 percent, but it could certainly be much higher than that”.
Dr. Foster thinks that things are far from going back to normal
Even with the development and administration of vaccines Dr. Foster believes things are still far from the point of going back to normal. She said “Things are going to get better slowly, and we have to guard against feeling like there’s no progress. There’s not going to be a magic day where this is all over and we can go back to normal. It’s already better in a lot of places, and we have to notice the progress we are making”.
Dr. Woods urges that people get vaccinated when it is their turn as this is the only way to achieve herd immunity. She said “I think the important message to get out there is that people should be lining up to get their vaccine as soon as they become eligible”.
