Here are some very scary yet real reasons that sitting 6 or more hours per day can greatly increase your chances of health issues and even death. While this may seem scary there are things you can do such as not sitting continuously for 6 hours or more. Try moving around every hour or so or walk to your friends cubby instead of shooting them an email to ask a question. Little things like this can mean significant benefits to your body and reduce your chances of having serious health issues.
1 Having a Desk Job Can be A Significant Strike Against your health
If you have a desk job then you are already sitting an average of 9.3 hours per day. That is a long time for our bodies to be immobile and not doing anything except the menial tasks of our daily jobs. While we have to perform and do our jobs we must also keep our health in mind as well. With constant pressures from corporate America to perform and do well it is no wonder many Americans are stressed, overweight, and have serious health issues. Try getting up from your desk even it’s to walk around or take a stroll to the other end of the hall. Exercise goes hand in hand with mobility. If you are sitting all day no matter what exercise you do will prove no significant results unfortunately.

The moment you sit down the electrical activity in your leg muscles shut off and your body basically goes into a meltdown phase. Such inactivity is not good for our bodies as it has prolonged effects such as increasing your chances of gaining weight, and increasing chemical reactions in our bodies that trigger other health issues such as high cholesterol, heart disease and blood pressure to name a few.

There has been documented proof that after 24 hours of such prolonged inactivity our bodies ability to produce insulin drops by 24% which can bring on Diabetes with a whole set of problems. Diabetes combined with any other health condition can make life often cumbersome and sometimes deadly. Common effects of the condition include infections which can result in amputations, dialysis, and loss of eyesight to name a few.

While exercising helps along with a good diet just sitting for long periods of time an average of 6 hours or more has no effects against gaining weight as our bodies are just simply not designed for such prolonged inactivity.
