Can a simple activity such as snacking actually be influenced by scientific factors that could impact your health? Nutrition based research studies have now discovered that even snacks have a direct relation to your body type and it has nothing to do with your weight. There are three main body shapes which you should know about. Categories such as Ectomorphs, Endormorphs and Mesomorphs all dictate snacking according to the body type. take a look at what you should eat what you should avoid.
1 What defines a snack?
According to a dietitian, Gabrielle Maston, A snack should not be more than 200 calories. Moreover, when you feel like having a snack, healthy snacks such as protein cookies, greek yoghurt or peanuts are ideal. Snacks are determined by their calorie counts and should always be small. Maston also recommends you shouldn’t snack if you’re not hungry.
2 The different body shapes
According to Maston, not everyone fits into the category of the three main body types, which were first observed and constituted in 1940. However, they are common to human beings. The three categories are:
Endormorphs: categorized by large bone structures with a large quantity of fat and have the tendency to gain weight easily.
Ectomorphs: Categorized by lean and tall bodies. Such types have a small frame with less body fat and have a problem gaining muscle.
Mesomorphs: Categorized by a medium, lean and athletic body frame. These are muscular and have less fat.
Now that you know the three categories, let’s take a more in-depth look at all three.
As per Gabriella Maston, you would know you’re an Endomorph if you tend to gain weight faster than usual. Celebs like Kim kardashian and Beyonce are classic examples of Endomorphs. This category is also good at strength based sporting activities like weightlifting, but they aren’t good at cardio workouts. Endomorphs should actually avoid snacking but if you must, then low calorie snacks are ideal such as multi and whole grain crackers, celery or carrot sticks, fruit and yogurt.
Snacking according to body type studies recommend that endomorphs would do well to observe diets rich in high essential fats and protein while avoiding or controlling carbohydrates. The large bone structure and big body mass makes it difficult for endomorphs to burn calories from too many carbs and they would do well to get their energy intake from fruits, nuts and berries.
Victoria Beckham and Cameron Diaz are ectomorph body types, categorized by their lean and long bodies. Ectomorphs need to eat as many rich foods as possible. In fact ectomorphs are the lucky ones who can snack on just about anything without gaining weight because of their increased metabolic rate which help them to avoid gaining weight. The only disadvantage of ectomorphs is their body’s inability to gain muscle.
Ectomorphs should snack on foods rich in protein, carbohydrates and fats. Mealtimes should be rich and wholesome and they should avoid foods that encourage weight loss. Nut butters Porridge, oatmeal and oat cakes are ideal snacks for ectomorphs. Proper weight training and workouts will help ectomorphs gain muscle.
Mesomorphs are medium bodied humans that feature also athletic lean frames. They tend to be muscular and quite solid. Perhaps this is the ideal body type to have like the lovely Jennifer Aniston and Halle Berry.
Mesomorphs also have a high metabolism and reduced levels of fat. Mesomorphs would do well to snack on Yogurt, whole grain crackers, boiled eggs, tuna, salads and protein shakes. The ideal diet for mesomorphs is 30% protein, 40% carbs and 30% fats. These should concentrate on non-starch vegetables, lean protein, fresh fruits, whole grains and non-fat dairy products. Mesomorphs are naturally strong and would do well to practice resistance training in workouts.
