The research studied the effects of two particular drugs called Herceptin and Tykerb. These are two common cancer drugs but till date they have never been paired together.  In fact, they are usually used as a supplementary treatment along with chemotherapy and even surgery. This is the first time researchers combined them together and the results they declare are astonishing.

5How the drugs work

Both drugs work by blocking growth signals that are found between cancer cells in the body which are responsible for cell death known as apoptosis. In the first part if the study, 130 women took part who were diagnosed with HER2-positive breast cancer. They were given the various types of treatment 11 days to figure out which worked best.
