If you are looking for some quick easy ways to lose weight with little or no effort on your own you definitely want to have a kitchen cabinet full of nuts, apples and lean meats to name a few. These essential foods have your body working and burning off calories the moment you put them on your fork. Check these out and start your New Year’s off to a lean start.

1 Chewy Foods

Chewy foods such as apples, nuts, and lean meats are ideal for anyone trying to lose some weight. Your body is working the moment you start chewing. It takes more effort and burns more calories. Not only do they take longer to eat but also take longer to leave your stomach leaving your body less time to add calories and weight to the scale. It is recommended you eat these foods in whole form. Rather than applesauce buy some red delicious apples. Your body will thank you too.

2 Hearty Foods

Cereals, brown rice, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables are perfect for anyone trying to lose that extra luggage from the holidays. These foods require more chewing and digestion and are loaded with fiber. The fiber alone is an appetite suppressor. The fiber leaves our stomachs feeling full for longer periods of time and can significantly curtail those in between snacks that we all experience between meals. Additionally the calories your body burns when chewing increases your calorie burn by 10%.

3 Energizing Foods

Did you know that your regular hot cup of coffee boosts your metabolism by 5% to 8% trimming nearly 80 to 128 calories a day from your diet? Green tea isn’t loaded with as much caffeine as coffee but contains an antioxidant called catechins which raises your resting metabolism by 4% about 80 calories a day!! Fantastic stuff you say. How about this. Did you know chocolate contains both caffeine and catechins which can also help in the weight battle? As with anything everything should be done in moderation, and you don’t want to add tons of sugar and other artificial sweeteners to your coffee or tea as this will defeat the purpose. Additionally experts suggest limiting your chocolate intake to 1 ounce per day.

A recent UCLA study claims that dieters who use capsaicin the chemical that gives those peppers that burning fire taste actually helps burning calories for hours after consuming. Even mild peppers can help shave off up to 100 calories a day from your diet. Other spicy foods that are an excellent ally in the food battle include mustard, vinegar, cinnamon, cloves, and bay leaves.

10 Grapefruit

For those who are on the borderline of diabetes and need to lose weight you might want to consider eating a fresh grapefruit before each meal. In a recent study done at Scripps Clinic in San Diego, it was discovered that individuals who eat half a grapefruit before each meal lost an average of 3 ½ pounds over 12 weeks. While drinking grapefruit juice has been proven to have the same effects, it doesn’t have any fat burning properties and just will help you feel full longer. Also, if you are on certain medications they do interfere with the ingredients in grapefruits. It is always wise to check the label on your prescription bottle or pharmacist or family physician before consuming grapefruit.
