Irritated by Hiccups? Here are 4 pressure points to get rid of them immediately
Hiccups are generally a nuisance whenever we get a bout of them. They can be caused by anything and sometimes some people are affected so much by hiccups that they feel nauseated and often throw up. Most of the times, hiccups are caused due to spasms in the diaphragm, which can be brought on by anything like drinking a fizzy drink, or eating something really spicy or eating anything too fast. Alcohol also brings a session of hiccups and even change in temperature can bring out hiccups. More often than not, the hiccups last for a few minutes and then go away on their own or you can try holding your breath or drink some water to make them go faster.
The best and fastest ways to get rid of hiccups is to use these 4 pressure points and apply pressure on them.
1 Face Point
The face is one place on the body that is very contorted when a hiccup arises and you can catch people making faces during hiccups especially if they are eating or drinking anything. But to get rid of hiccups, place a finger on the ridge of the upper lip, right in the center and at the base of the nose. Press the spot firmly and try to push it in, towards the teeth. Keep the pressure for 30 seconds and then release.
2 Chest Point
You first would need to find your sternum; it is the bone that connects all your ribs in the upper body together. Now place your fingers on the sternum and try to locate the ending point, going upwards. Now firmly apply pressure on this point for 30 seconds. You should feel the pressure on the bone and try not to break the sternum with too much pressure, as it is a fragile bone.
3 Abdomen Point
First of all, locate your pubic bone and the belly button. Now just in the middle of these two locations, there is a pressure point that can relieve you of hiccups in a jiffy. The pressure point is located in the middle of this line and is the same point where you perform the Heimlich maneuver. Lie down on your back and press the spot for 30 seconds for saying goodbye to the hiccups.
4 Hand Point
Make a fist to see the two vessels like dentations on the inner forearm. The dent that is closer to the wrist and the pressure point lies between the two vessels, around 3 finger lengths in the direction of the elbow. Hold the pressure point for 30 seconds. Along with hiccups, this point is a brilliant pressure point to get rid of nausea as well.
Putting pressure on these points tend to change the flow of the GI in the body to stop hiccups. Also keep in the mind that the pressure you apply on the points should be enough for you to feel warm on that spot. But if the hiccups remain for an hour or over an hour, please contact your doctor immediately, as it can be a sign of some serious condition. Also, consider putting pressure on these pressure points as a temporary relief and not a permanent solution for the hiccups.
