Here’s the reason doctors are recommending natural birth
In today’s modern world, people are short on one very important thing and that thing is time. People value things like beauty, money, status, etc and don’t want to lose any of it for any reason. This need for beauty and sometimes medical reasons has increased the number of C-section births.
Women opt for C-section birth, despite being given the option for a natural birth because of reasons like fear of pain, tearing of the private part during birth, long time in labor and sometimes due to medical reasons like the umbilical cord getting wrapped around the baby’s neck or if the baby gets inverted.
But here is a very good reason put forth by the scientists to opt for natural birth, if there is no other medical emergency and you have the option of choosing.
1 What are types of birth?
Giving birth to a child is a thing that only women can experience. But with that experience, comes the fear of pain, possibility of the labor stretching to long hours. But generally most of the women opt for any of the two options for birth, barring any medical emergency: natural birth or a C-section.
Natural birth is the way of giving birth to a baby, where the baby comes out of the vaginal opening. This is the most recommended option for birth since it involves no surgery. But there are possibilities of extreme pain during child birth and long hours of labor before the actual child birth begins. Hence women have started opting for the option B.
Option B is the C-section, in which the baby is brought into the world by doing a surgical procedure. This option is recommended only if natural birth is not possible due to variety of reasons. Those reasons may be the mother having a medical condition, any danger to the baby, twins etc.
2 Why you must opt for natural birth?
Researchers have found out that giving birth to your baby via the natural way is actually healthier to the baby. It also makes the new born healthier. The reason for this is the inter-generational transfer of the microbiome from the mother to the infant.
Disturbance of microbiome environment in the gut during the pregnancy and specifically delivery of the baby can severely impact the newborn baby’s health in the early stages of infancy. The baby also builds its own microbiome and any disturbance during the birth may prove to impact its ability to form one of its own and cause health issues later in the life.
3 What is microbiome?
Microbiome is actually the trillions of organisms that live on our skin, in our guts and respiratory system. They are the ecological group of symbiotic and pathogenic micro-organisms that share our body space.
The human body is home to 10 times more microbial cells than human cells. The microbiota in our gut actually plays an important role in the development of our immune system. It helps in building resistance towards different kinds of bacteria and the bacteria in the guts also help in digestion of the food.
The microbiome is closely connected to the brain via the enteric nervous system (ENS), which is connected to the gut. This formed the term gut instincts or the ENS responding to the threats faced by you and sending signal to the brain about your wellbeing.
4 What does it mean for the baby?
The microbiome is very important for the baby, since the newborn acquires it from the mother, during the natural birth. This microbiome is then transferred in the baby’s gut, which can impact the baby’s health in the long run. The microbiome helps the baby fight off infections and develops the body’s immune system. It also affects the baby’s nature during the early part of life.
Children born via C section miss out on this enormously important microbiome and have a tough time fighting off infections and it also affects their health in adult hood. Scientists have started to make connections between gut bacteria in infants and health problems in adulthood of C-section babies. C-section babies are more prone to health problems such as obesity, asthma, allergies, diabetes, eczema and celiac disease.
Therefore doctors always try to avoid C-sections unless and until they are extremely important. Natural birth gives babies their mother’s bacteria, which help them develop a stronger immune system and avoid many adulthood diseases.
