Get rid of cracked heels with these home remedies
Cracked heels are a common problem and they aren’t just unaesthetic, but can also cause terrible pain and bleeding. People who neglect their heels, don’t scrub them regularly, wear wrong type of shoes, have unhealthy diets, live or work in unhygienic environment, will certainly develop cracked heels. Also, deficiency in zinc and omega 3 fatty acids can cause this condition, even if the person has good hygiene and eats properly. Feet will expand sideways due to excessive pressure and form the cracks. Red or flaky patches, peeling and cracked skin, itchy skin, bleeding or discharge from cracks are some of the symptoms. Here are the home remedies that can relieve your pain and help you in curing your cracked heels.
1 Fruit mask
Fruits have many enzymes and healing components that make them healthy. The right fruit combination can help you get rid of cracked heels. Banana, pineapple, avocado or papayas are on this fruit list. Take these fruits, mash them and massage your feet with the mix. Banana and papaya are the best options as you can mash them easily. You can either mix these fruits or simply mash the fruits separately; they would do the work either way.
2 Milk and honey
Even if you don’t have cracked heels, you can exfoliate them with a mixture of milk and honey. This moisturizing duo does miracles for cracked heels, keeps them soft and exfoliates them. You will need 2 cups of milk and one cup of honey; mix them until the honey dissolves and then massage your feet with it. Make sure to do this before taking a bath, so you can step in the shower right ahead and spare yourself from cleaning sticky foot prints.
3 Vinegar soak remedy for cracked heels
White vinegar contains acetic acid which is gentle on your feet skin and softens them up. But, do not apply the vinegar directly on your heels as the acetic acid in it may dry up the skin further. You will need ¼ cup white vinegar, ¾ cup of water and any type of oil or cocoa or Shea butter. Add the vinegar in the water (which previously you have poured in a basin). Soak your feet in the basin for a couple of minutes and then gently scrub them while they are still in the water. Rinse your feet with clean water and dry them well. Afterwards massage your feet with oil, cocoa or Shea butter. For even better effect, put on cotton socks. Don’t overuse this treatment – once or twice a week is more than enough.
4 Aloe Vera remedy for cracked heels
It is a well-known fact that aloe vera is beneficial for overall health, so, of course it can be used to heal cracked feet. Mixing certain herbs with the aloe gel will cure fissures and will make your feet smooth. This remedy is good for people with diabetes too. Diabetic foot when cracked are a great place for bacteria development, which may result in further complications. Neem leaves are also a good solution for diabetics with cracked feet. Crush the leaves of neem or basil until you turn them into paste. Add the aloe gel to the paste, apply on your cracked feet and leave the mixture for 10-15 minutes. Wash off with warm water.
5 Vaseline and lemon juice
Before you apply the mixture, clean and dry your heels. Once all the dirt is out, soak your feet in warm water for about 15-20 minutes, then rinse and dry them well with a towel. Mix one tablespoon of Vaseline and one tablespoon of lemon juice and then rub this mixture over your heels and other cracked parts of the foot. Rub it till it gets absorbed in the skin. Apply this mixture before going to bed and keep on overnight, wearing a pair of woolen socks, to help trap body heat and increase the effectiveness of the mixture. Wash off in the morning.
